SOURCE: I have pt cruiser showing mulfunction cersor light

Thought that the PT Cruiser wanted 87 Octane fuel....Your extra expense outlay will hurt nothing but your wallet.
Fill it up again. Be sure the tank is FULL. Restore the gas cap and give the vehicle 2 or 3 days to restore the "check engine" light. Malfunction Cursor is not (normally) in Crysler's auto maintenance software!!
If you continue to get the display - take it to Autozone and they will do a diagnostic on it for free - and TELL YOU what is wrong.....

SOURCE: 420 code catalyst system efficiency below

You could have an enefficient converter. Question is what caused it to go bad? I have attended seminars on code 420, Possible causes are lack of spark or clogged fuel injectors. there have been times where the spark plug wire lays on the engine and over time it wears a weak spot in the side of the wire, its not enough to throw a miss fire code but it keeps the full amount of spark from getting to the plug and not burning the all the fuel in the cyl. A leaky injector would also cause to much fuel to be deliverd into the cyl and not get burned.

Hope this helps.

2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser. I changed the crankshaft sensor, MAP sensor and then the check engine light goes off. A few miles down the road it comes back on.

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to model category.

When the CEL comes on, you need to read the code. The code tells the problem and searching that code give the solution to fix.

What would cause a 2005 PT Cruiser to lurch intermittently?

This would be very good justification for you to buy a cheap OBDII scanner through Amazon or your local auto parts store. Next time it happens, plug the scanner in immediately and read the error code(s) out of the computer. Then you'll know what's happening. The failure is intermittent, whatever it is, so you need to catch it while the error code is still "live".

My check engine light on my 2006 pt cruiser keeps coming on for 2 days and off again and on again the codes read p2097 what is the fix and cost?

Replacing the o2 sensor if you do it will be around $80.00 . If you have it done probably twice that. Do not get a cheap sensor from auto parts store. Spend the money and get one from the dealership. Or you will be doing the job again. The cheap ones do not last. When it comes to sensors you get what you pay for.

I have a 2005 PT Cruiser with 40K miles on it. I

The only way to determine what is wrong and what it will cost to fix is to scan for codes that triggered the light to go on. The oil change should not have anything to do with the light (just check the oil to make sure they filled it to the proper level.) If oil level is ok, you can drive it, but have it checked soon because it could cause other problems if ignored for too long. Go to a parts store, most offer free checks of check engine light. They will plug a hand held scan tool into the PT's diagnostic port, and 'read' codes stored on the cars computer. These codes 'trigger' the check engine light to go on. They can then tell you the code#'s, what they mean, and how to fix the problem. If at that point you have any questions, post them and the code #'s here.

P2097 Error code in 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan, which O2 Sensor?

actually there are 4 sensors. one on each exhaust manifold and then as you said one prior and aft the catalytic convertor. this is saying it is reading too rich a reading. check the condition of your spark plugs. you need to pin point the reason. chances are it is not the o2 sensor. happy holidays

2006 pt cruiser, check engine light came on. Shortly after, gas cap light. Replaced gas cap and reset. Today bith lights came on again.

are you fueling car with key "on"? That will cause light to come on. Disconnect battery for 1 hour and this will reset "keep alive memory" and clear codes from memory. Drive car for 10 miles so computer can relearn engine parameters. It may run rough during this period.
