96 Astro Fuel Pump Question?? no start/Flooding

I have a 96' Astro that I am having a cold-no start/flooding situation! My question is, if the fuel pump is failing,....could it cause it to flood on cold starts? I have replaced the distributor, coil, ign. module, coolant temp sensor,plugs/cap/wires, new MFI Injector/Pressure Reg.,fuel filter ,Cleaned & checked the EGR! IfI mess with it usually for an hr or so trying to start it, It will usually start( I have blown off 5 new muflers in the last year with this! After I get it started & let it run for a while It will start the rest of the day just fine. But, Next morning(after it sits all night) It is the same problem( Flooding & just chugs & backfires sometimes! HELP!!!!!!! My curiosity on the fuel pump is because if I just jump in it & crank on it, it will not even fire,....If I wait the 2 seconds for the fuel pump to stop, it will at least chug( but not start) ! Tapping the key repeatedly for 1/2 an hr or so, is usually the only way i can get it running!

Actually,..this does not have the "NUT KIT" Like I believe you are thinking, it is just the steel lines into it! I have replaced the injector with a new Upgraded injector & Pressure regulator! everything on it is new( every sensor ), I am just baffled at what could be the problem as it runs like a TOP, when I finally do get it started, & starts/runs fine all day until i let it sit overnight! Also just to bypass most peoples next thoughts, it does have( 3rd set we have tried) AC Delco Cap/Rotor/Plug Wires,...& 2nd set of New Bosch Platinum Plugs ! I am thinking from a couple of threads I have read, it is the fuel pump! I have heard from a couple of people, that if it doesnt have the appropriate amount of pressure, it will not fire correctly. Its Turkey Day, I am going to buy a fuel pressure guage in the morning,...I will post what I find! *** Anyone has this same problem & have cured it, or has any ideas, PLEASE feel free to email me on this! I AM TIRED OF FEELING BEAT! LOL

With the upper plenum removed and spark disabled turn on the key and allow the fuel pump to prime while watching the fuel lines from the back of the intake to the injector. I suspect you lines are leaking. Have seen this before. ALOT.

I have the exact same problem and too have replaced everything. Have you had any luck yet? My van will only start if I bump it too. I am at my wits end. Freind that I used to work with at the chevy dealer says the 4.3L have problems with the valves sticking and has done valve jobs on a few of them.
It runs so dang good when it starts I have a hard time believing it. Once started will be fine all day just like you. Plese respond and tell me what you have found. Thanks Turbinepwr

You will need to replace the fuel pump and check the wiring on the pump.

My 96 ford windstar keeps flooding itself out, where do I start troubleshooting this?

Flooding is a fuel to air ratio being off. I would start with the simple things like air filter and make sure it is properly connected on all ports. The other thing I would check are the vacuum hoses. There should be a diagram of where they are under the hood on a sticker.

1989 gmc once it warms up it starts to flood it self out

Are you sure it's flooding or starving itself of gas? Rent a fuel pressure gauge from auto zone and check your fuel pressure is exactly what it is supposed to be. Fuel pump can warm itself up and and kinda fizzle out so check when warm and cold.

Most likely is the temperature sending unit/sensor. Nobody ever thinks about how it works. When engine is started, and cold, the temp sensor tells the computer to put the engine into cold start mode, putting more fuel into the engine and to a bit higher idle. Once it warms up to operating temp, said sensor tells the computer to turn off cold start mode and it stops dumping excess fuel in. If the sensor puts it in cold start mode, malfunctions and doesn't take it off cold start mode, it's still dumping excess fuel in and flooding the engine. Sometimes a re-start will reset the computer, but not always. Makes sense now, doesn't it. Find the temp sensor and replace it like you did all the others.

Engine flooding

Check the fuel pressure. The pressure regulator may have gone bad and is delivering too much pressure to the fuel rail, thereby flooding the engine.

Solve 1994 passport flooding

With the pressure gaige in place, energize the ignition, but do not start vehicle, let the fuel pump cycle to off which takes about 5 to 10 seconds and watch the pressure drop.

If pressure is within specification, one or more fuel injectors is leaking. If more than 75,000 miles or 100,000Km, replace injectors because they are beyond their service life. This should remedy the flooding situation.

If the pressure does not drop significantly after 15 seconds of key switched off, the issue may be related to air temp sensor or coolant temp sensor. If they are original to vehicle- replacing both is a good idea.

Car wont start flooding with fuel knock sensor code

do you mean the code reader is flooding meaning giving this code tons of times or are you saying the car is flooding out and you also are getting a fuel knock sensor code. The more complete thourough the questions are the better diagnosis can be given. The situation is the knock sensor is just that. it picked up some kind of vibration and in turns tries to protect the engine from any further damage. this is why the car is not starting. Usually this trips the fuel shut off switch and stops the fuel pump from running. Untill you reset the fuel shut off this will not start. Owners manual will explain location and procedure of switch.

It starts great but after we go somewhere and turn the engine off, it won't start until 45 min to 1 hr. It sounds flooded. but then after the time passes, it starts great again. have change mass flow...

Have a fuel pressure test done to find out if the pump or the fuel pressure regulator is at fault. If the pressure is low, the fuel pump is weak and can't keep up with the demand for fuel.
If it is high, the pressure regulator is at fault causing to much pressure rusulting in a flooding situation.

I have a '96 Suburban. Two months ago i started having trouble stating it. It turns over fine, but hesitates starting. When it does start, it seem to be flooding for a few seconds. Then it runs fine. ...

This is gonna sound totally wrong and silly BUT i had the same year surburban and trust me - Replace your battery with a new one with at least 750 COLD CRANKING AMPS - They are about 75 bucks from autozone - but it WILL FIX YOUR PROBLEM.
