Knocking sound from the back wheel

The back fright wheel on the driver's side has started to knock. More so when you push on the break. Almost sounds like something is rubbing under the car/behind the wheel/on the wheel! Just before the knocking starts, when pushing down on the breaks. The breaks squeek. This just started. We took the car in a few weeks back to have the tires rotated.

Could be a lose or over-worn brake shoe.  When is the last time you had brakes done?  Mileage?

  • Todd Carlstrand Mar 14, 2012

David-We are at 67K and had breaks done at 50K.

You may want to have the rear drums/shoes inspected, if you don't have experience with brake drums, I highly recommend you have someone look at them as they can be tricky.

    taken it in tomorrow-thanks!

SOURCE: Engine Knocking Noise

I don't think that the petrol quality will come up with this noise and also the engine is fairly new to have these sort of problems.. Have you run out of oil and used the car? I would suggest a computerised diagnostic if you are getting any error code on the dashboard. It is quite complicated to get an answer for your question...

SOURCE: I have an 05 Scion tC, and I have switched my rims

the 70 series tire is about an inch taller so there shouldn,t be a problem. can't you try them to see if they'll fit? there were 17's on them before and they fit.

Testimonial: "I didn't realize we had a lot of small pick ups here at work so i ran outside and measured from the hub to the outside of the tire, and it seems good"

Knocking in the front driver side wheel

if the knocking is only on the drivers side when you turn to the right then it sounds like you have a drivers side front wheel bearing that needs replacing. also if the bearing is bad enough you won`t have to turn much to get the noise.

Do you feel it in the steering wheel? if so it could be the intermediate steering shaft. If not it could be a sway bar link or bushing.

2005 trailblazer knocking sound front drivers side wheel when accelerating only

First check wheel bearing. Jack front end up lifting tires off ground and see if the wheel moves by pulling on the sidewall part of wheel from top and pushing bottom towards the car does this back and forth if there is play, wheel bearing could need replaced. Take tire off and check for loose brakes, loose calipers, loose dust shields , etc. everything except rotor should be tight.

Ball joint nocking or strut tower

CV joint, the strut does not make a knocking sound unless its totally
shoot and the car is bouncing to its high and low limit.

If you push down on the car and it bounces a little then the strut is shoot.

The cv joint will knock if it is bad when you turn the wheel, when it gets real bad,it will knock when driving in a straight line.
