Seems that the fusebox is too close behind the driver side headlight to be able to get the buld in or out of the housing from behind; does the housing or the fusebox need to come off to change this? Who is the ******** engineer that designed this, shouldn't headlight be relatively east things to replace.

I just replaced the bulb in the driver's side headlamp on my 2005 Scion xA without having to remove any screws, bolts or the grill. It's very simple, but it helps to have small hands. Just take the cover off the fuse box to allow more room for your hand. Reach in with your left hand and unplug the wiring assembly. Remove the rubber cover by using leatherman pliers. Squeeze the two sides of the spring clip together to release the bulb. Don't worry, the spring is hinged at the bottom, so you won't lose it. Take out old bulb & replace with new. Reverse steps, making sure you align the center hole of the rubber cover so that the three prongs of the bulb are protruding.

This is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! Many many thanks. EASY!

Just finished replacing drivers side head lamp bulb on my 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 . After spending hard earned money on worthless DIY Proffesioal websites, your question made me take a second look.

Yes remove the fuse box 1 nut and a phillips head screw and it slides forward from it's cleverly engineered holder on the battery shelf and there yo have it....

Easy access to the lamp plug, give the outter ring fastening device a twist and the bulb slides out with a little effort. from there reverse the process.

Thanks for the question, wish I'd read it before I registered for all the worthless forums.

Same problem with my 2006 Scion XA. Read other solutions about removing the whole headlight assembly, however that appeared much more troublesome. Removed the battery, and disconnected the fusebox from the fender. I then had room to change the bulb.

This info is not correct Remove the three bolts and two screws from the front of the lens. You will need a ten mm socket with and extension to reach the outside recessed bolt. The other two are located directly in front of the radiator area and are easily removed. You may need to remove one or two screws holding the rubber seal. That depends on your model and year. Head light unit now slides out forward and allows access to the bulb connections. You may have to wiggle it a bit to get it to move.

Cobalt 2005 ls headlight bulb replacement

Instructions Things You'll Need:
  • 9007 LL halogen headlight bulb
  • Wrench
  • Gloves or clean rag
  1. Step 1 Set the parking brake and remove the keys from the ignition to ensure your Chevy Cobalt won't roll while you're replacing the headlight bulb.
  2. Step 2 Open the hood by pulling the hood release latch located under the instrument panel on the driver's side of the car. Locate the secondary release latch on the front of the hood at the center, slightly towards the driver's side. Slide the latch to the left to release the hood and raise it.
  3. Step 3 Locate the headlight assembly and remove the bolts by turning them counterclockwise. Set the bolts aside in a safe place, so you won't misplace them.
  4. Step 4 Remove the plastic fasteners from the headlight assembly molding. Carefully pull back the front fascia, or molding. You may need an extra pair of hands to perform this slightly awkward task.
  5. Step 5 Grab the headlight assembly and pull it towards the radiator at a slight angle to remove it. This should provide easier access to the headlight bulb and wiring harness.
  6. Step 6 Lift the plastic locking tab on the wiring harness to disconnect the bulb base. Then, disconnect the wiring harness from the bulb socket and remove the black retainer by turning it counterclockwise.
  7. Step 7 Disconnect the bulb socket by turning it counterclockwise. Remove the old bulb from the socket by firmly, but gently pulling it straight out.
  8. Step 8 Replace the old bulb with a new 9007 LL halogen headlight bulb. Put your headlight assembly back together by reversing the steps when you disassembled it. Use 89 inch-lb torque when retightening the headlight assembly

Replacing headlight

Composite Headlights
Most of the vehicles covered by this manual are equipped with composite headlight assemblies. Due to space constraints, no access may be provided to withdraw the bulbs, so the replacement usually requires removal of the composite assembly.

CAUTION The composite headlight assemblies use Halogen bulbs which contain a gas under pressure. Improper handling of the bulb could cause it to shatter into flying glass fragments. To help avoid personal injury, follow the precautions closely.

Whenever handling a Halogen bulb, ALWAYS follow these precautions:
  • Turn the headlight switch OFF and allow the bulb to cool before changing it. Leave the switch OFF until the change is complete.
  • ALWAYS wear eye protection when changing a halogen bulb.
  • Handle the bulb only by its base. Avoid touching the glass.
  • DO NOT drop or scratch the bulb.
  • Keep dirt and moisture off the bulb.
  • Place the used bulb in the new bulb's carton and dispose of it properly.
  1. Raise the hood and locate the bulb mounting location at the rear of the composite headlamp body.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. If necessary for access, remove the splash shield or side marker lamp(s).
  4. On some models it may be necessary to remove the side marker lamp.

HOW TO REPLACE A SCION XA DRIVER SIDE SIDE MIRROR?

Strange my 2006 does not require the door panel removal at all. There is a small triangular panel that specifically covers the bolts (10mm) that hold the mirror in place. There are 3 total and a quick electrical connect that need to be removed / disconnected. On my car this panel houses a tweeter.
Carefully pop the panel off with a screwdriver, remove the 3 nuts and disconnect the electrical. Replace in reverse order

2. Disconnect the harness connector from the back side of the
bulb.
3. Pull off the rubber cap.
4. Press end of the retaining pin together to release bulb.
5. Remove the headlamp bulb. Do not shake or rotate the bulb
when removing it.
6. Install the new bulb in reverse order of removal.
