Misfire when accelerating

When cold the car accelerates fine. When it warms up every time I start to accelerate from a stop the engine jerks and misses. There is no miss at cruising or highway speed, only upon acceleraitng from a dead stop or on a steep. incline. If I accelerate very slowly from a stop there is little or no miss the faster I try to take off the worse the miss is. I put new plugs and wires, there are no trouble codes.

Year, make and model of your vehicle would help. If you can check for codes in the engine control module, it would also help in better diagnosing your possible issue and resolve.

What have you done so far as to diagnosis ? Have you checked for any vacuum leaks ? Have you checked if your coils/plugs are in good condition ? Adding as much detail information is best.

2.4 liter OHC coil housings have this as a common failure. Thery arc over internally to another cylinder and cause the misfire.

SOURCE: bucks or jerking feeling cruising at highway sppeds

It sounds to me like the drive train is getting loose. By loose i mean that the universal joints, and linkage to the rear differential is worn.
The engine speed is trying to adjust to keep the speed sensor from the transmition to the cruise, and the speedometer constant. when the engine begins to slow down, or speed up the loose drive tran will be amplified by the loose linkage. It is easier to notice this problem with a standard transmition.
If it has a stick shift and you are in a low gear try speeding up and then letting off the accelerator and it will ****. If it has an automatic it will not be as evedent but you can try putting it in the lowest gear and do the same. It could have a clank sound when you hit the gas, or when you let off the gas, but not always the case. If the universal joints are going bad it may have a vibration when you get up to 40 MPH or so. This will shake things apart if you wait too long.
Also if the universal joints are wearing out it could have slop in it when you have it parked and give it a strong wiggle from the drive shaft just in front of, or just behind the universal joint.

SOURCE: car chugs and jerks like crazy while cruising

Determine whether the jerking is engine or transmission related. One way to determine if it is the transmission lock up converter is acting erratically is to down shift out of OD. And see if jerking persist. If it goes away suspect transmission to have problems with torque converter or TCC solenoid . If it doesn't go away determine whether or not the engine sounds to be misfiring. If so vehicle may require a tune up. Many vehicles can be diagnosed for free at your local Auto Zone.

SOURCE: when driving on the highway

Bad COP Ignition Coils (cylinder misfires) even if you have
no wrench on the dash (check light)

Check with scanner in MODE $06 on a road test
or use an oscilloscope on coils

Egr Valve -- not any good also ,if it has been there since 2004

SOURCE: Car jerks while driving on the highway. Seems like

Old adage is.....misses on a pull.....it's ignition. How old are spartk plugs and wiring?
The car is also old enough to have some vacuum lines getting broken or brittle. So check for vacuum leaks. don-ohio

2003 focus 1.8tdci heater plug light starts flashing no acceleration. engine misfire, loads of black smoke at stop.on acceleration misfire, stop and restart after a few moments then no fault, why?

Have your temperature sending unit/sensor checked for proper function. When the engine is cold and you start it, the computer put's it in cold start mode. When engine is warmed, the temp sensor takes it out of cold start mode and to normal fuel delivery. If this sensor is malfunctioning, it stays in cold start mode and is still dumping excess fuel into the engine causing the symptoms you speak of. Too much fuel causes engine bog and smoke out the exhaust is unburned fuel because it's being choked and not enough air flow to counteract this condition.

Misfire, From a cold engine you wont have the misfire. When you engine is cold fuel is in demand and it will run great. As it warms up the fuel strategy is to lean it out (proper balance is 14.1 to 1) . At normal operating temperature the spark plug required KV is 15kv. As you accelerate the sparkplug require more voltage from its coil reserve and it delivers and at the same time the engine demads are high in order to accelerate and the spark will seek the easiest path spark plug, now when you come to a stop the demands for spark decrease and it seek the easiest path where is that at ? out through the boot of the spark plug, The vehicle is equipt with what they call COP (coil on plug) along the boot path it deteriates and so does the coil it deteriates .170,000 mile of hard working COP. they are at their worn stage you can find the weak coil with a cop tool because it misfire on acceration your looking at a boot, probable water got in there shorting it out,if it misses at idle its either water in the boot or the boot itself or the cop.

Hesitation , skipping, engine cuts out when accelerating

Im having the same issue I believe. I have a 94\' Chevy 1500 and when i accelerate it will jerk like the gas has cut out but it wont stall. It just jerks and slows me down. It only seems to do it when going up a hill. I feel like it could be the fuel pump or possibly some intake gaskets?
