My 2004 S500 will not start after it has been turned off if I leave the key in the ignition and the radio on. If I take the key out and wait approximately 7minutes or more it starts right up. Help

1998 s-10 security light

If the security light is hot or flashing when the key is in the on position, most likely the ignition key tumbler housing has failed.

You can try resetting the pass code by turning the ignition switch to the on position (do not crank or start the engine). Leave the key in the on position for 10 minutes. Turn the key to the off position, wait 5 seconds and turn the key to the on position again and leave it on for 10 more minutes. Cycle the key to the off position again for 5 seconds the back on for a final 10 minutes. Once the final 10 minutes is complete, turn to the off position again, wait 5 seconds and now turn the ignition on and to the start position. The pass code has now been reset and it should start. If the reset does not work you will have to change the ignition key tumbler housing that contains the key code resistor.

2002 Olds Olero /replace ignition switch

remove your radio, there will be 2 bolts to undo, switch will slide into dash, unplug harness turn key to remove cable, if ignition wont turn you may have to take ignition apart to remove cable. reinstall in reverse procedure. will need to relearn new key to be able to start. try to start, leave key in run position, theft/security light will be blinking. leave on for 15 min or light stops blinking, turn off turn back to run without trying to start. leave on for another 15 min. turn off then start

After replacing the battery on my Porsche Carrera 2000, I entered the wrong numbers a couple of times on the radio screen asking me to enter 4 digits and then the screen went on a WAIT signal. Now that I...

Yes - there is a solution here.

The problem here is that you must leave continuous power to the radio until the WAIT period is over. Any interruption to the power causes the countdown or wait period to start all over again. The secret is to ensure the key is turned in the ignition to accessories point I or the first point on the ignition that activates power to the radio.

If the key is not turned in the ignition as outlined, the radio will automatically shut off after one hour which is a power saving feature (which is great) but it also has a side effect in this case of shutting off the radio before the time limit has been reached!!

Obviously - as you must leave the key turned in the ignition during the wait period (which may be up to 4 hours) please ensure the vehicle is parked in a safe location and well away from any opportunistic thief.!!

Hope it helps or for anyone reading this in a similar situation - this information applies to many vehicles and radio types as many manufacturers have a similar security feature.

Periodically, when I turn the key to start my 2004 Silverado, it does nothing. It doesn't make a noise, it just is dead. If I sit in it and turn the key about 50 - 100 times, it will usually start....

Next time check to see if the security light is flashing. If it is then you set off the system. Some models the security is set everytime you leave the vehicle. I believe yours can be changed thru the radio, check your owners manual. If the security is set off, turn the key off, then bck on, let set for ten minutes, you will have to do this three times, do not take the key out or try to start it untill after the third time or you will have to start over. If the security light is not flashing then you have a ignition switch problem. The switch is locate under the dash mounted to the steering column. not to hard to replace.Let me know I can help, If you need it.

Key stuck in ignition

Be sure its all the way in park or try neutral. Its possible that security system does not recognize the key. Is security light flashing or on steady? Shut all doors and windows, trunk, hood, turn off all accessory's,roll down drivers window, turn key off and remove for at least 1 minute, insert key into ignition, try to start leaving key to run position for 20 minutes, turn key to off, wait 15 seconds, try to start again leaving key to run, wait 20 minutes, turn key off, wait 15 seconds, try to start, again leaving key to run, wait 20 minutes, turn key off, wait 15 seconds, try to start. This should relearn key code. It may relearn after 1 learn cycle and start if system is ok. Hope this helps and that the weather is dry and warm for this procedure! This is not always a fix, but works most of the time.
