  • EVAP Purge/Vent Solenoid Circuit Condition.

  • You can access this from under the rear seat and then there is an access panel that will give you access to the top of the fuel tank/fuel pump etc.
  • Below is a nice little video that will tell you all about the purge valve and vent valve.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

I have a 2004 Ford focus with a couple code s and was wondering the easiest way to fix po411 , po455 ,po480 ,po 660

P0411 - Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system upstream flow The secondary air injection system does not detect the presence of air in the exhaust when introduced by the secondary air injection system.
    • AIR bypass solenoid circuit open.
    • AIR bypass solenoid leaking/blocked or stuck open/closed.
    • Electric AIR pump - no/low air flow.
    • AIR diverter valve leaking/blocked or stuck open/closed.
    • AIR air hoses restricted or leaking.
    • AIR vacuum hoses restricted or leaking.
In order to test the AIR pump, it must be capable of driving the HO2S lean.
A single electrical circuit open, such as an AIR bypass solenoid, in this multi-component circuit will not be detected by a PCM output driver circuit, yet it will create DTC P0411.
P0455 - EVAP Control System Leak Detected (No Purge Flow or Large Leak) The PCM monitors the complete EVAP control system for no purge flow, the presence of a large fuel vapor leak, or multiple small fuel vapor leaks. System failure occurs when no purge flow (attributed to fuel vapor blockages or restrictions), a large fuel vapor leak, or multiple fuel vapor leaks are detected by the EVAP Running Loss monitor test with the engine running (but not at idle).
    • After-market EVAP hardware (such as fuel filler cap) non-conforming to required specifications.
    • Disconnected or cracked fuel EVAP canister tube, EVAP canister purge outlet tube, or EVAP return tube.
    • EVAP canister purge valve stuck closed.
    • Damaged EVAP canister.
    • Damaged or missing fuel filler cap.
    • Insufficient fuel filler cap installation.
    • Loose fuel vapor hose/tube connections to the EVAP system components.
    • Blockages or restrictions in the fuel vapor hoses/tubes (items also listed under disconnections or cracks).
    • Fuel vapor control valve tube assembly or fuel vapor vent valve assembly blocked.
    • Canister vent (CV) solenoid stuck open.
    • Mechanically inoperative fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor.
Check for audible vacuum noise or significant fuel odor in the engine compartment or near the EVAP canister and fuel tank.
P0480 - Cooling Fan Electrical Malfunction
Variable Speed Electric Cooling Fan This test checks the Fan Control - Variable (FCV) output circuit. The DTC sets if the PCM detects the voltage on the FCV circuit is not within the expected range.
    • FCV circuit open or shorted.
    • B+ or ground circuit fault to cooling fan.
    • VPWR open to cooling fan (if applicable).
    • Damaged cooling fan module.
    • PCM damaged.
During the KOEO self-test, the cooling fan is cycled on and off.
P0660 - Intake Manifold Tuning Valve (IMTV) Control Circuit Open - Bank 1 The IMTV system is monitored for failure during continuous, KOEO, or KOER self-tests. The test fails when the signal on the monitor pin is more or less than an expected calibrated range.
    • IMTV signal circuit open, shorted to PWR GND or SIG RTN.
    • Damaged IMTV actuator.
    • Damaged PCM.
An IMTVM PID reading may indicate a fault if available.

2000 Ford Expedition My Expedition (4.6L V-9 2WD) has had an intermittent problem of cutting out. The Check Engine light was not coming on - so I figured it is not a misfire. It drove just like it had...

Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0446 or P1450 indicates that Self-Test has detected the Evaporative Emission Control System has excessive fuel tank vacuum. Also, a DTC P0446 indicates a vent control malfunction.

    Possible causes:

EVAP canister purge outlet tube (EVAP canister purge valve to EVAP canister) blockages or kinks.

EVAP canister tube (fuel tank to EVAP canister) blockages or kinks.

Fuel vapor elbow on EVAP canister contaminated.

    Restricted EVAP canister.

Canister vent (CV) solenoid stuck closed (partially or fully).

Plugged or contaminated CV solenoid filter.

EVAP canister purge valve stuck open.

Fuel filler cap stuck closed (no vacuum relief).

VREF circuit open in fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor.

Damaged FTP sensor. (fuel tank pressure)

Check for kinks or bends in the fuel vapor hoses/tubes (EVAP canister purge outlet tube and EVAP canister tube).

Visually inspect EVAP canister inlet port, CV solenoid filter and canister vent hose assembly for contamination or debris.

Check CV solenoid filter for blockage or contamination.

The common things I've seen are are mud in the canister and the canister vent solenoid being shot or the wiring to the canister vent solenoid being torn off. The resistance of the solenoid should be 48-65 ohms..
Pick up a Chiltons book and will give you a diagram of where exactly you find the canister. They are like $15 at any auto store. Good luck

    I have a 2006 Mazda 5...evap leak...codeP0455...where do I look?

Check the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve for being stuck open. Try to blow through it by mouth. It should be closed and should not be able to blow through it by mouth with it de-energized. Can test it per TSB # 01-025/05. Potential Causes: EVAP Canister Purge Control Solenoid Valve

There is a TSB for these and other possible trouble codes to be set due to a stuck open EVAP canister purge solenoid valve - TSB # 01-025/05. A stuck open EVAP canister purge solenoid valve will also allow fuel vapors from the fuel tank to enter the engine when the fuel tank is being filled - resulting in a hard start condition. The EVAP canister purge solenoid valve is under the hood on the drivers rear of the intake manifold area

Im getting a P0441 EVAP emission control system purge flow fault code on my 2002 dodge neon

Here is what I could find for your code error as potential causes:
After market parts and accessories nonconforming to the EVAP system specifications.
Damaged, missing or improperly installed fuel filler cap.
Blockage in fuel vapor hoses/tubes (EVAP canister tube, EVAP canister purge outlet tube or EVAP return tube) in EVAP system.
Disconnected or cracked fuel vapor hoses/tubes in EVAP system.
EVAP canister purge valve stuck closed.
Canister vent (CV) solenoid stuck open.
Fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor malfunction.
    EVAP canister leaking.
Fuel vapor control valve tube assembly blocked.
Fuel vapor vent valve assembly blocked.

Obviously the gas cap would be the easiest and cheapest thing to fix.  Just make sure it is put on correctly and tight.  If it is not that, I would have to suggest to take it to a mechanic because the other problems on that list are not really DIY material.  Hopefully it is the gas cap and you can take care of it yourself.  Good luck.

My taurus failed due to code p0442 ecap emiss ctl sys leak detected (small leak)

Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0442 indicates that a fuel vapor leak has been detected [as small as 0.10 cm (0.04 inch)] in the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) system.
Note: Prior to performing the following diagnosis inspect the Canister Vent Solenoid (CV) for contamination. A situation may exist where contamination holds open the Canister Vent (CV) solenoid enough to set DTC P0442 and also plugs the port to atmosphere enough to keep system from being vented quickly.
      • After market parts and accessories nonconforming to the EVAP system specifications.
      • Damaged, cross threaded or loosely installed fuel filler cap.
      • Small holes or cuts in fuel vapor hoses/tubes (EVAP canister tube, EVAP canister outlet tube or EVAP return tube) in the EVAP system.
      • Loose fuel vapor hose/tube connections to EVAP system components.
      • EVAP system component [EVAP canister purge valve, fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor, canister vent (CV) solenoid, fuel vapor control valve tube assembly or fuel vapor vent valve assembly] seals leaking.
      • CV solenoid partially open when commanded closed.
      • EVAP canister leaking.
    • Check for presence of fuel filler cap.
    • Verify that the CV solenoid is properly seated on the EVAP canister (if possible).
    • Visually inspect for cut or loose connections to fuel vapor hoses/tubes in following locations:
      • EVAP canister to EVAP canister purge valve.
      • EVAP canister to fuel vapor vent valve assembly.
      • fuel vapor control valve tube assembly to fuel tank (if applicable).
