I have a 92 accord LX. I have replaced the Radiator and the hoses, thermostat and fan switch. Car is still reading hot in a matter of 5 to 10 mins of running. Fluids are topped off. I am not sure why it is still running hot. Any suggestions please...and thank you

The Fans will come on when the car is turned off. Havent actually taken a temp, just what the gague is reading. My radiator hoses, the one coming off the top gets hot. The one off to the left stays what id like to think rather cool. Which i would think then my thermostat is not working properly.. but this is the third one... I do not think the fans are coming on when the car is running.

Could timing be a factor in to any of this?

If this car is running hot in a matter of 5 to10min then i would have a blocktest done. for this car to overheat so fast then its one of two things, a bad waterpump in which the impeller has rustted away and is not flowing the coolant or a bad headgasket which also stops the flow of coolant. a car even with a bad thermostant or radiator will run for about 20 min before overheating, the first thing is to have the block test done thats first. this test is easy and fast to do. the radiator is drained alittle bit below lower hose level then a tube is pusked on the top of the filler neck of the radiator and then with engine runnig it uses a diafram to **** fumes from radiator into the tube which has a fluid that turns from blue to yellow if exhaust is entering the coolant. if the test passes then my next step would be to run the engine and see if the lower hose gets hot when engine is starting to overheat or when its overheating, if the hose is not as hot as the top then theres a flow problem and waterpump must be remove to check the impeller.another quick thing is is the hose is hot on the lower hose then is fan running, ifnot even with a problem with the fan if you are driving the flow of air going through the radiator should keep it from overheating.i think your problem is with the pump or headgasket. hope this is helpful.

If you have no air in the system, cooling fans & water pump are working properly, and you didn't install the thermostat backwards, you could have a head gasket problem. Also, make sure the gauge is reading correctly, and the engine is actually hot & the gauge is not giving you a false reading.
If you installed the thermostat upside down, it will not open to allow coolant to circulate. This 5-10 minute time frame you give points to a water pump or thermostat.
I hope this helps.

Timing can cause an overheating problem, but not in 5-10 minutes. The timing would have to be so far off the engine would be hard to start, or would not start.

I dont think it has to do with timing, one question, does the coolant boil out from the resavour? if not then its not the head gasket. Make sure the fans are coming on when the temp reads half on the guage and if the hoses are soft then replace them including the rad cap. Try that and see what happens.

Are the fans coming on? Have you verified the that it is overheating with a gauge other then whats on the car?

I would first get a temp gauge preferable lazer type and check the temp. Just to make sure you dont have a faulty gauge. Then watch the fans make sure they are working. Make sure the air is out of the system by starting the car with the heat on high and topping off the coolant. You may even try to remove the thermostat and run the engine with out it.

My 93 honda accord lx is over heating what do i do?

The first thing is to make sure the coolant is full, check it when the engine is cool, check radiator level, if coolant is full then check for bad thermostat, run engine and as it overheats check both hoses to make sure they are both hot, if one is hot and the other warm then you will need to replace the thermostat.if both hoses are hot then you may have a bad cooling fan or sensor, hope this is helpful.

Top radiator hose is HOT, radiator is steaming

have u replaced the radiator and hoses? Thermostat could also be stuck open. Water pump could also be your issue. with motor cool and of remove radiator cap(cap may be bad as well) top-off fluid and start car check for fluid flow with flashlight. Water pumps typically leak from what is called a weep hole when the shaft seal fails. Yours will be located under the timing cover (drivers side) running of the timing belt.
Hit me up after u have check on these.

NEED TO REPLACE WATER PUMP

if you go to your local library most do carry the manuals and you can copy the info you need.
difficult.. yes. extremely difficult...no
if you decide to do it make sure you use 1/2 drive breaker bar on crank pulley if your lower timing cover cannot be moved far enough to access the water pump mounting bolts. also make sure you don't turn the timing gear when removing the belt or replacing it.
hope this will help you.
