1999 Chevrolet Venture - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
How to reset the computer in my 99 venture van
To collapse all the sensor and reset everything? If that's what you're after, you disconnect the battery and touch the battery cable-ends together for right close to a minute or so and that gives everything time to reset back to factory setting depending on what your actually trying to do. But this method will not harm your vehicle in the least as it is a method used normally to reset certain things back to factory. I hope this takes care of your particular issue. My venture starts then shuts off immediatly.
What about your security system? Is there a security lamp on the dash that is on or flashing when you try to start or after it stalls? If not, then the problem shouldn't be the security system.
A misfire could be caused by fuel also, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Any applicable trouble codes? You need fuel--spark--compression at the proper time. Just my opinion.

have the fault codes read to confirm the mechanics diagnosis
I am suspicious that the car runs hot, looses coolant but the mechanic did not do a compression test to check for head gasket/ cracked head problems
From you statement ,I am thinking that the car has overheated , and blown a head gasket at no 5 cylinder
I have a chevy venture
No ,there is not another valve . One low side service port an one high side service port . An only one A/C compressor . Under the hood in the engine compartment there are A/C lines going into the firewall . These go to the front Evaparator unit . With the vehicle running an A/C on do this line's (pipes) get cold ? If yes , your problem is probably the temp. actuator . Control's how hot or cold the air coming from the vent's get . If stuck half way , hot an cold air combine to make warm air . Replacing some of these actuators can require the dash to be removed . Your best bet ,take it to a qualified repair shop .
Fuel guage pegs high at start then goes to empty
Jason, as far as the fuel gage, try a couple of resisters at the wiring for fuel gage sending unit, in gas tank. It's two wires, use the resister inline between the two wires. One resister is for low fuel level, the other for high fuel, If the gage reacts properly to both resisters, the problem is the sending unit in the gas tank. You can try 40 ohm and 250 ohm resistors. I used to get resistors from radio shack, I don't know if they went bankrupt? The store in my community closed. Other places may have resisters?Just to add, the wire colors for sending unit/sensor are purple and black with white tracer.

Try cleaning the mass air flow sensor . Don't know what kind of
mechanic you take it to , but i would try another one . Hooking up a scan tool an viewing engine sensor data while it's acting up , seeing which sensor is bad is the best way to find fix.
Engine stalls after a few seconds..'99 Venture
Does the security light flash or come on steady ? Have a lot of thing's on your key ring ? Other key's with transponder inside , Do you know what a transponder is ?
The Ignition Key (Transponder)
The ignition key for PASS-Key® III equipped vehicles is a typical ignition key using a transponder pellet located in the end of the key. The ignition key transponder value is used in order to determine if a valid ignition key is being used in order to start the vehicle. When the ignition key is inserted into the ignition cylinder and the PASS-Key® III module detects the ignition voltage (the ignition switch is in RUN or START) the module measures the transponder pellet value. The PASS-Key® III module validates this value and performs the following functions:
• If the ignition key transponder value is valid, the PASS-Key® III module performs the following (system enable) functions:
- The PASS-Key® III module sends a pulse width modulated signal to the PCM to request fuel enable.
- The PCM enables the fuel system.
- This function enables the engine to start.
• If the ignition key transponder value is invalid, the PASS-Key® performs the following (system disable) functions:
- The PASS-Key® III module does not send the fuel request signal to the PCM.
- The PCM does not enable the fuel system.
- This function does not enable the engine to start and run. The engine may start and then stall due to residual fuel in the fuel system.
The PASS-Key® III module can identify up to 10 valid key codes to operate the vehicle.
Having excess thing's on you ring , including other PASS-Key® III keys , can confuse the computers .
Repairing or replacung rocker panels for 99 venture
They make replacement rockers for these vans. You need to grind all the paint off the old one and get the new one fitting good, then there is a glue made especially for gluing panels on. Glue and clamp them in place and finish blending them in with filler, prime and paint.
