What is the towing capacity

Well the transmission is good for a rating of 6,000.lbs if it is the 700R4 they are in 8,600.lb trucks. The motor and the frame is another story. Something that heavy you would want electric brakes on the trailer if that is what you are thinking of hauling.

My 79 el camino turn

Your 1979 turn signal lever is called the "smart stick"...this should be interchangeable with all 1979 and newer GM cars or trucks prior to the mandatory airbag steering wheel started in l993...try the internet or your nearby salvage yard...you should be able to find this lever...Hope this helps. (great car:)

I need to change the

yes, below are procedures from autozone.com. Before replacing motor, please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6234839-doesn_t_heater_or_air_conditioner_blow . These are generic instructions. You should check the motor by wiring it directly to the battery before replacing. If the motor is good, next check the resistor for continuity. If you get stuck or need additional instructions, please get back to me. Blower motor removal:
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the hoses and wiring from the fender skirt.
  3. Remove all fender skirt attaching bolts except those attaching the skirt to the radiator support.
  4. Pull out, then down, on the skirt. Place a block between the skirt and the fender.
  5. Remove the blower-to-case attaching screw, then carefully remove the blower assembly.
  6. If necessary, remove the blower wheel retaining nut, then separate the motor and the wheel.

Repair of starter and alternator

These are items which you replace, not repair. You choice is buy new, or exchange yours for rebuilt or remanufactured units, or buy used. New expect to pay well over $100, rebuilt over $50, and of course you can buy working used ones from junkyards for about $20. You get what you pay for, I never buy a wear item used. Fenders and windows OK, but not anything like this. Look on youtube.com and you can find videos of folks changing these. Important to electrically isolate the battery from the car, before you begin.

Brake lights do not come on when stepping on brake

Check both left & right brake lights. It's not usual for both lights to fail at the same time, so it's likely the fuse or the pressure switch that works with the brake pedal. It's not usual for both lights to fail at the same time.

Goes out of lock-up at

The lock up torque converter clutch circuit may be clogged. Try flushing and filling with transmission fluid at a shop, and if that doesn't remedy the problem (for about $100) then you're looking at a transmission rebuild, or a replacement with a low mileage transmission that doesn't have this problem.
