Locate your aldl connector under dash near steering column. It should have 12 pin connector. Older cars had 8 pin connector. You can do either one. On 12 pin connector jump the last 2 pins, on top row

locate aldl connector If your car is older than 1996 there is no connector - you use the display on the dash to get the trouble codes.

in the mercury grand marquis 1986 sedan The ALDL connector is located under the center console arm rest. To get access to the connector remove the black plate around cigarette lighter. Hope this helps
