My refrigerator won't dispense ice cubes or crushed ice or water at the front door, I was wondering if it could be the Touch pad control panel on the front of the refrigerator. If it is can you give me instructions on how to install it. Thanks in advance.

I had a technician come out and he said it was the control board, but why can't it be the Touch pad. I'm getting ice to the ice machine, the touch pad isn't working for the crushed, cubed or water but everything else works, lights, temp for freezer and refrigerator side, quick chill.

My refrigerator won't dispense ice cubes or crushed ice or water at the front door, I was wondering if it could be the Touch pad control panel on the front of the refrigerator. If it is can you give me instructions on how to install it. I can get ice from the Bin, it's making ice. No water coming from the door when I hit the water button, nor Cubed or crushed Ice when I hit those buttons, MODEL IS GSS23LSTASS. A technician came out and said it was the control board, but he didn't run any test or anything. So I was looking on web pages and think it could be the Touch pad on the front of the refrigerator.

Thanks, do you know what date that letter was done, it says today, but the original letter was in 2006.

If your lights go dim when you try to dispense ice or water it is most likely the main control board BUT IT CAN BE A CHEAP FIX! Behind a plate on the lower back of the refrigerator there is a large plate that has the main control board under it. There are two identical capacitors marked 470uf 25volt by the small transformer. If you see that the tops of these are pushed up AT ALL on top THAT is your problem. Use de-soldering wick and a soldering iron to remove them then replace them with 470uf 50volt capacitors and your problem is solved. Be sure to observe polarity on the capacitors. $2 permanent fix.

The front touch pad board /panel which you are referring is called dispenser board. To access the dispenser board assembly, click this link below:---
http://howtobyme.blogspot.com/2011/06/ge-side-by-side-refrigerator-will-not.html ------------ The dispenser board removal procedure is mentioned at the last on the link instructions.-------- -------------- But the engineer at your place has pointed you to right direction. The main control board is most probably the cause of problem. One more important thing. There are many other users too facing same problem with there ge side by side refrigerators. This problem occurs in many ge model refrigerators. There was service letter released by Ge for this problem.Click this link, to read the letter:--- http://howtobyme.blogspot.com/2011/07/ge-side-by-side-refrigerator-wont.html -----------

You can get required parts from online sites like: --- www.repairclinic.com or from searspartsdirect online site.

----------- This should help. Thanks.Helpmech.

  • raj somaiya Jul 29, 2011

Yes correct, the letter was released in 2006, the problem starter occurring on that year. But on some refrigerators, the problem was same , but it took little time to appear. In your case it appeared now.------
This problem was due to the board defect in the refrigerator.--------- You can call the local ge service center or ge product dealer and see if they help you get the board replaced for free. But as the letter was released few years back , and in your case same problem occurred now.So may be they dont give free replacement, but may be a discount in the parts and service charge, at least.---------
    This should help.Thanks.Helpmech

It is odd that everything quit at once. I would locate the quick connect going into the door and make sure it is connected well. Sometimes it is above and under the hinge cover and sometimes it is under the ice box kick plate. Did you recently clean under there? Maybe you disconnected the power to the water and ice dispenser. This usually means the waterline that feeds the ice maker and water dispenser is frozen. If you lower the temp. setting in your fridge by 2 increments your food will still be cold but your waterline should thaw out by tomorrow and start working

Hi

Remove the auger motor and check the motor bearings for rust. Try to lubricate them. If it would not help then replace the motor. Remove the ice bin. Wash it with warm water. Make sure it is completely dry before installing it back. Also remove any ice that was produced elsewhere from the ice maker and dispenser. The chute is designed to dispense only that ice that fits the dimensions of that made by the ice maker itself. Foreign ice will clog or block the chute. Discard ice cubes in the ice bin if ice has melted and refrozen around the auger in the bin. Rinse the bin in warm water to melt any remaining ice, and then dry the bin and replace it.

You did not mention what is the brand of your refrigerator. But before doing anything please check this link to troubleshoot your problem:-

Hi jriester5,

If the water is not going to the ice maker and no water at the door you have a water valve problem the valve is bad. The water valve is located behind the refrigerator you have to remove the back cover to replace it.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

It could be the touch pad and remove the dispenser cover by gently prying starting at the bottom going round and round a little at a time to prevent from breaking it. When it's off the screws will be exposed to access the other components. Your model number can be used to find diagrams and parts list HERE

The control board is responsible for most functions in the refrigerator freezer. If power is not getting to the touch pad then it could be the control board. If you can test for voltage at the touch pad you can be sure.

My Maytag Fridge Ice Dispenser stuck on crushed ice, so no whole cubes can dispense. What can I do?

If you look at the bottom out side area of the ice cube bucket/auger assembly, you will see a metal rod going front to back. That is the shift rod for cubes/crushed ice. Make sure it is free. Then look at the back of the refrigerator where the end of that rod goes into a square hole. There is a magnetic solenoid in that hole that shifts the rod for selection. The solenoid coil is either bad, unplugged, or for some reason stuck and not shifting that rod. That's where the problems is located.

Ice maker is crushing ice when cube ice button is on

We've had a similar problem, possibly the same, with our LG in-door ice maker. Whether cubed ice or crushed ice is selected, it crushes the ice.

We found that there is a little lever on the inside of the door, on the lower right behind the ice bin, which freezes in the down position. This is a literal "freeze up", as a block of ice forms in the little well under this switch and eventually freezes the switch in place. Since the switch needs to go up to provide cubed,.. we only get crushed. On 3 separate occassions we've thawed and chipped out (carefully) this little ice dam and gotten cubed ice capability back for a few weeks. At which point it freezes again. I have no idea why water collects there in the first place.

Ice cubes will not dispense, but crushed ice will. GE Profile TPX24PRYA

If the auger motor turns in either setting we know that the auger motor is OK, and if it does not turn in both crushed and cubes that leaves a problem with the WR55X129 time delay, which is the part that you switch to go from cubes to crushed to water.

Ice dispenser only dispenses crushed ice

You may not need to replace the solenoid.  If you hear the hum, and not a loud click and don't see then rod move, it may be frozen with ice.  Test it manually with your hand, it should be free  to move up and down.  If not, then it is frozen with ice.  Remove the ice dispenser and let it thaw and dry out.  You should then be able to move to rod and it will work fine, at least until it freezes again.  Anyone know how to prevent it from freezing up? Its a continual problem for me

Ice dispenser only dispenses crushed ice

Check and make sure your switch is okay. Some have a switch that controls whether you want crushed or cubes. If it is defective replace it.
