KDS Rad-9p wont stay on

I have a 19 KDS Rad-9p LCD monitor and seems like something is over heating. I have somewhat of an electrical background and put a meter on it to check the power supply and that was fine. I was trying to find a schematic for this thing but i'm having a hard time. I not sure where else to look considering i'm going at kind of blind.

11/27/08, same problem, I"m out on web now looking for a schematic, as I do have a electronic background in repair. Thinking there is a thermister strapped to the board to protect from overheating and fire, and it is failing.

Other possiblity is a chip is overheating and failing.

Either way I will be oening it up tomorrow to begin tracing.

I bought a used KDS 17" color monitor, Rad-7,

I agree that the overheat was the supply being too small. Not only the voltage rating is wrong, but I'd bet the amperage is alsotoo low for correct operation. Check this link. I have bought power bricks from them for laptops, monitors, and power tools - all good quality without breaking the bank. They ship pretty quickly as well. http://generalsaving.com/productfile/G_LCD12V3A/1000/G_LCD12V3A_z_0157.php

I have a KDS 5ms model 900W this was never used as my sister gave it to me since she was unable to get it to work. but like the others it won't stay on for more then 7 secs and you need to push the power...

These have problems with burning up transistors on the inverter side of the powerboard.
Sometimes they are fixable, sometimes not. It depends on which board is in it (they used 2 different styles)
I have done a few of these.
If you can open it up and send me a picture of the board to [email protected], I may be able to tell you more.

RAD 9p shutting off Have checked all capacitors

Hi

The capacitors need to checked with an ESR meter. Althought capacitors sometimes bulge when they go bad this is not always true. Capacitors change value internally very easily when the conditions are right. High heat.

You can send this to my company for repair or if you need more help go ahead and email me.

Thanks

RAD-9p shuts off for no reason

Hello,

It sounds like you have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of the monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix the problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictures and your monitor should work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.
