My KDS RAD-7 power supply calls for a 12v 4.16a which blew out. Can i replace the power supply with a 12v 5a power supply or is that too much?

6A is OK, HIGHER CURRENT is OK but not higher voltage, the main key is that the pwoer supply MUST be REGULATED power supply. Does it say that on the universal power supply that you have?

I agree that the overheat was the supply being too small. Not only the voltage rating is wrong, but I'd bet the amperage is alsotoo low for correct operation. Check this link. Is the cord missing - perhaps a low/voltage co-ax socket which means that you will need an external power supply
