Call HP and send it back. They'll run you through their hoops to make sure there really is a problem. (There is, it's a known problem with this printer). They'll send you a new printer and pay for the shipping to send back the broken one.

Don't wait too long.

If possible, save yourself a lot of grief and take the printer back and get a refund. This problem will continue to plague you at some point. It's a problem with the printer itself not in how you use it.

Their software often gets corrupted on your computer and requires reinstalls, you'll have problems with the updates, faxes may or may not go through -- I had mine for a year and trust me it's just better to get a refund and try another computer.

This time, I'm searching Fixya and other sites for known problems before investing a few hundred for a printer.

Unfortunately for me, mine didn't show up until after my warranty expired. (A week after).

Good luck!

I just loaded new HP 94 and HP 97 ink cartridges in my HP 6210 Officejet. I went through the alignment process and received a sheet that had colors, but no black ink. The printout indicated the alignment...

Make sure all the protective tape on the Black cartridge has been removed. Also are the inks re-filled? I have seen many re-filled cartridges fail in a similar maner.

Need help: our HP officejet v40 will not print.

I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

Working with print cartridges
To ensure the best print quality from HP All-In-One, you will need to perform some simple maintenance procedures and when prompted by a message on the display replace the print cartridges.

5. If you are removing the print cartridge because it is low or out of ink, recycle the print cartridge.
6. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and, being careful to touch only the black plastic, gently remove the plastic tape by using the pink pull tab.

Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.
7. Slide the new print cartridge forward into the empty slot. Then gently push on the upper part of the print cartridge forward until it clicks into the socket.
If you are installing the tri-color print cartridge, slide it into the left slot.
