Sounds like you have a bad transformer. Magnatron should check less than 1 ohm (with wires unplugged). Diode should check resistance one way and open the other. Must have a proper diode checker for this. Check resistance on the capacitor (make sure it is discharged first). Resistance should come up then back to open, reverse and same thing if cap. is good. Check resistance on transformer windings.
UN -PLUG IT,,,,, THAT "FUNNY SMELL" SOUNDS LIKE IT IS SHORTING OUT
PERHAPS THE MEGATRON HAS GONE BAD, THE MEGATRON IS THE
HEART OF ANY MICROWAVE
AS A EX- FIREMAN, I KNOW FROM FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE THAT
"A FUNNY SMELL " OR " UN-USUALL SMELL COMING FROM AN ELECTRICAL
ITEM IS A SIGN OF DANGER
I have a GE Profile Spacemaker model JVM3670WF001, purchased I think in 2003. Pop sound, no Heat. Light goes on, carousel goes around, Repair or new microwave
Hi, this is common in most microwaves. this abnormal noise is coming from a faulty Magnetron. this device is responsible for the heating process and, it is damaged and not heating at all at this point.Simply replace the Magnetron and, this unit will start to heat once more.
Possible bad heating element, You should remove the cover of the unit and look at the heating element with the power off. Until you get your problem resolved I would recommend not to even turn it on due to the fact that you are unsure what is going on and you smelt some burnt smell. Just for safety until you fine the problem
