Just bought a gently used Royal M2028 Classic Upright. Beater brush does not turn and I am assuming the belt is broken. How do you put a new one on?

SOURCE: Royal upright handle fork spring replacement

This is actually fairly normal, and there's no real easy way to get that bolt out. Your best bet is to continue turning it as if you were unscrewing it while applying pressure to the opposite end. A narrow piece of metal can help, especially if coaxed with a ballpeen hammer. If possible, you can try to apply some pressure upward on the spring to keep it from holding the bolt too tightly, but this only works about half the time.
Getting the bolt back into place is also something of a nightmare, as you have to use your thumbs to hold the new spring in place while forcing the bolt back into place. I've had indentations on my thumbs from holding that spring many times.

Good luck,

-R

SOURCE: the beater bar/brush won't turn

HI THERE,
FIRSTLY, REMOVE SOLEPALTE BY QUARTER TURNING THE 3 COLOURED STUDS,THEN CHECK TO SEE IF THERE IS ANYTHING OBSTRUCTING THE BRUSH BAR OR IF THE BELT IS WORN OR SNAPPED. IF ALL SEEMS WELL PUT THE SOLEPLATE BACK ON AND ENSURE CLUTCH IS ENGAGED TO AUTO AND TRY IT AGAIN. IF NO JOY THEN PLEASE COME BACK TO ME.

SOURCE: beater brush won't spin but belt is intact and ok.

For your beater brush to spin, you have to meet two conditions:
1) the vacuum cleaner has to be reclined (put your foot on the front and pull back on the handle).
2) The clutch actuator (the dial where you switch between BEAR FLOORS and CARPETS needs to be set to CARPETS).

If the brushbar/beater bar still doesn't spin after that, call the Dyson helpline, they will assist you. If you are saying that the brushbar isn't spinning because it is not picking up any dirt, you may have a loose internal hose, a blockage in the machine or the bristles on the brushbar are worn. Call the Dyson helpline for assistance.

"Eureka - Pet Expert HEPA Bagless Upright Vacuum - Mystic Purple" is BRAND new and burning! I literally had soot on my hand and up my nose and mouth after using it just now. I've only had it for 24 hours....

Sounds like the beater brush is frozen and the drive belt is burning up.
Check your directions on changing the drive belt for the beater brush. When you remove the beater brush, clean as best you can. At each end of the beater brush you will find a plastic clip. These clips hold the beater brush in the vacuum. Add some WD40 between the brush and the clips. Turn the clips by hand and be sure they turn freely. Reassemble and at the same time, put on a new drive belt.
If this solution is of help to you, please take the time to add a Thumbs Up to my profile for the assistance. Thank you. Paul

My bissell helix cleanview vacuums brush doesn't spin

Sounds like the beater brush is frozen and won't turn. Remove the beater brush and clean off all debris, especially at both ends. You will find a square(?) piece at each end of the beater brush that holds it in place. This need to turn freely. Put a little WD40 on these where the center rod of the beater brush enters the small holders and turn by hand until they turn freely. Once this is done, assemble with new belt, making sure the belt is put on properly. If the belt is missing and you need to replace, I would still do the cleaning on the beater brush. It should move freely when you turn it by hand.

My dyson has lost suction and the brushes do not rotate

Sounds like a broken belt may have been pulled up into the machine. Plan on replacing the belt and cleaning the beater brush. Put a little WD40 on these where the center rod of the beater brush enters the small holders and turn by hand until they turn freely. Vacuum turns on but the brush is not rotating

Most likely a problem with the drive belt or the beater brush. Either the drive belt is broken or the beater brush is frozen due to debris. If you can not turn the beater brush by hand, it should be removed and cleaned well. The ends of the beater brush that hold it into the vacuum should be lubricated with some WD40 and moved by hand until they are free. Once the turn freely, replace the beater brush. If the drive belt is broken or missing, it needs to be replaced.

Bought a new sweeper and brush ( beater bar ) does not turn. The large belt is fine and turns. The small thin belt is also fine but does not turn the brush. It is either the wrong belt or is there...

Jim, To put tension on the brush, tilt machine forward when upright, move carpet selector knob to carpet. then turn vac on. Brush will only spin when vac is tilted back to operate. brush stops when upright and on to use hand tools so the er is no danger to carpet or persons with moving roller.
