I lost the cd that came with my router (G-wireless WRT54G2). I managed to reset it and its working with ethernet cables but i want to go wireless with my laptop and playstation3 and secure it so no one can steal my internet access.

First try by changing the Ethernet cable if it still does not work then it might be a issue with your modem so try replacing that

Connect to the router with an ethernet cable. You don't need any kind of installation CD. Just open your wireless connection manager on the OS you're using in your laptop and connect to your wireless network.
If you need to configure the router, go to 192.168.1.1 in your web browser to open the router's configuration page.

2. Log in to your NETGEAR router by browsing to http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com. Enter the username (admin) and password. By default, the password is password or 1234 unless it has already been changed.
3. From the left-hand navigation menu of the Router Manager, select Set Up > Wireless Settings.

• If the wireless network passphrase is visible, review it and use it to log devices onto your network.
• If it is not visible, you can change your wireless passphrase; however, changing the passphrase will cause you to lose your wireless connection. Connect your computer to the router with an Ethernet cable before entering a new passphrase into the text box and clicking Apply.

If you cannot log into your router:

Unfortunately, there is no way to recover a lost or forgotten password from a router or access point; you will need to reset the device to factory defaults. However, once the device is reset to factory defaults, you can use the default username ("admin") and password (either "password" or "1234" depending on your router) to reconfigure your router settings.

NOTE: Restoring factory defaults on a device will erase any customizations you have made. You will lose any configurations saved to the device!

Please try a different cable - it could be bad.

The Linksys WRT54G2 is Cable/DSL router with 4 port switch. It has many features including a built-in DHCP server. By default, it's IP address is 192.168.1.1, username: blank and password: admin.

Plug in the Modem to the Linksys router's Internet / WAN port then plug your PC's to any of the 4 ports (1,2,3 & 4). The Linksys router once turned ON will automatically provide your PC with IP address starting with 192.168.1.xx (x means number from 100-149).

Make sure that known working ethernet cables are being used. Check your computer's IP adress by going to the command prompt. Start>RUN>type CMD then press Enter. Type IPCONFIG and check the IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.100). Check you PC's network adapter if you don't get an IP address from the Linksys router.

You may opt to reset the router by pressing the reset button at the back for 30 seconds if it fails to give out DHCP.

If you disconnect one of the 4 "LAN" Ethernet cables, the corresponding lamp should go out.
If not, then power-off the router, wait a few seconds, disconnect all the LAN-side Ethernet cables, and power-on the router. When the lamps on the router settle down, the router will have finished rebooting,
and the LAN lamps all should be "dark".
If not "dark", connect one Ethernet cable, and see if the lamp goes on. If not, then the router should be responsibly recycled, and a replacement should be purchased.

You will need to check the wireless settings of the router .
Is there any computer connected to the router with the Ethernet cable?
If not then connect 1 computer to the router and open the router set up page. Once you open the router set up page, you will be able to find the wireless network key.

If you are installing the router between your ISPs modem and your PC, first you will need a ethernet network adpater that installs in your PC, you will need two crossover ethernet cables, one to install between the modem and the router and one between your network adapter and the router, once the cables are connected, turn everything on, first your ISPs modem, then the router and then the PC, once the PC is up, insert the CD that came with the router and follow its instructions and that should work!
