Hello Ellen, welcome to fixya. I would begin by removing the rear panel and checking the belt and insure the basket pulley isn't loose as well. If the belt is in tack ( not broke ) but has come off that sometimes is caused by a loose or bent pulley, hence the suggestion to check the pulley. If the belt is broke, it may simply be a matter of normal "wear & tear" and just time to replace it. Hope that helps point you in the right direction. The only Miele spare parts are direct from Miele or through a Miele service agent. Have a look on the Miele website for your nearest Miele branch or service agent in your country.
I work for Miele and they only sell parts this way. if you call the Miele spare parts number off the website and tell them what model washing machine you have and they will be able to mail one to you or advise a service technician to have a look at it.

CHECK THE SWITCH WIRE

I have no idea if this will actually work, I have never tried it myself, but a guy I worked with on washing machines years ago used to swear by putting 3 DISHWASHER tablets in the drum and then running the hottest cycle that the machine would run (White cottons 90 degrees if you have it).

Any of you have a dishwasher and want to try throwing 3 tablets into the washing machine and reporting back on the result?
