Most monitors will behave that way if they don't get a signal from the computer so there's nothing to display. A quick check of the monitor itself is to disconnect the signal cable from the computer and then turn the monitor on. Most monitors will display some kind of a message that there's no input and to check your cable connection. Then the power indicator changes color as the monitor blanks out.

You will probably find that your computer isn't starting up when you turn on the power. A common computer problem is that it will turn on when you press the power button, showing a power light and you'll hear the fans inside start running, but it never actually starts running. Then there's no video to the monitor and you see the trouble you described.

The monitor may still be bad. If everything seems to be starting normally and you hear the Windows startup sound through your speakers, but the display stays blank, try another monitor. If that one works, you'll need to have the bad one serviced or replace it. If the test monitor is also blank, the video circuitry in your computer has failed. If the video is built into the motherboard, you can install a plug-in video card as a replacement.

If the computer is turning on but never starts running, that can be a pain to figure out because several things can cause the trouble. The most frequent causes are a bad power supply or motherboard. Bad RAM or a defective drive or other device connected to the motherboard can also keep the board from starting up. The processor itself can fail, but that's not common. I start by removing everything except for the power supply, processor and fan to see if the motherboard is starting. If the motherboard doesn't give a "no memory" error (usually a long beep), you need a power supply or motherboard. Otherwise, the basic hardware is fine, and you can start replacing parts until the trouble comes back, and then you'll know what caused it.

Good luck, and thanks for using Fixya!

Nokia 800+ monitor - screen is blinking approx.

Hello,

I think the problem with your monitor is that, the picture board on the monitor is malfunctioning that is why it keeps going blank after a minute.

What you need to do is to replace the picture board on your LCD monitor, replacing the picture board will solve the problem, because the picture board on the monitor at the moment is bad and will need to be replace.

Replace the picture board and you will see that the problem will not repeat itself again.

Take care.

We have a Mitsubishi tv Model WS48311 purchased in 2003. Recently the picture will blink off and then return on in rapid succession. The sound stays on when the picture is blinking. We hit the ?menu button...

You have bad switches on the front panel. Press them 50+ times to release them. Failing this you will have to replace them. You can disconnect the front panel to confirm this.

LG Flatron - green power led blinks twice

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed LG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

22" monitor screen went black and power button blinks from orange

More likely to have failed power supply (not feeding 12~18vdc to the inverter circuits), failed inverter circuits (shorted transistors, failed inverter transformers), failed back light assemblies (burnt wires). You will have to open it up and inspect the inside. Pleasen look through my pictures of failed monitors and components if yo decide to DIY repair.

The ON/OFF button blinks but no screen image

Hello,

Since the power led button is on, I think the picture board on your monitor is faulty that is why it is not displaying anything.

Since your computer work perfectly with other monitor, it means the picture board is bad that is why it is not displaying any image.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer or any service center within your vicinity to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself in other to complicate issues.

Take care.

No picture - power button is blinking green

The "blink" is an indication that the monitor is *NOT* getting any signal from your computer's video-card. Either your video-card is the problem, or your computer is "sleeping", and you cannot "wake" it.

Reboot your computer, and watch the monitor, to see if anything at all is displayed.

Reboot with a different monitor connected, to see if anything at all is displayed.

If another monitor works, your monitor is the problem. If neither monitor works, it's the vide-card inside your computer that is the problem.
