Possibly a broken wire. It is common for the flexible cable to break at the 3 pin plug end from constantly pulling the cord / plug out of the socket or if its a retractible cord, they get broken where the cord enters the machine rewinder. this happens when the cord is pulled out to its maximum length all the time and eventually cuts through the cord. I would try a new 3 pin plug first.
Have you recently plugged in another appliance (computer, microwave, etc)? The drain on your home's wiring system may not be allowing all appliances to run at once. Some basic trouble-shooting guidelines can be found at: http://www.repairclinic.com/Air-Conditioner-Troubleshooting
sounds like you may have a broken wire in the cord. cut the end of the cord approx 4 inches from the "plug end" strip the wire and plug the bare wires back into the outlet and see if your unit works, if it does the plug end has a broken wire, if it doesnt then the unit is bad.
The cord or plug in is damaged and needs to be replaced from end to end just get some wire and open the speaker case and redo the wires. This is an easy fix, find another cord matching and just solder a new one from end to end with a new tip. That is all you need to do? Thanks for using FixYa! John
1500 watts is about as strong as the extension cord can handle my advice would be to buy a heavy duty extension cord made for a/c or heaters which are alot thicker than an average cord and only have a single plug on the end.
get a yellow tester from homedepot, it has three lights [ amber amber red ] hat tell you what you have at the plug. takes out all the guess work. you will love
good luck

One way would be to go to a store that sells electrical parts and buy a replacement plug and install it. The other would be to replace the whole cord, much more time consuming and probably a bit more expensive. I'd just go and buy a new plug.
