I opened the vacuum,i checked the cord and it is in the correct form, not tangle etc..still doesn't work after pluging it the wall out let..help

  • Steve F Apr 16, 2015

Have you cut back the cord and changed the 3 pin plug? Because the original plug is a moulded plug, it can be very difficult to determine if the wiring in the plug has broken other than by replacing it. If you have and its still not working, it could be at the other end inside the machine. If you have access to a multimater, you can check the wiring from start to finish and through all the components to see where the failure is, if its not a cord break.

Possibly a broken wire. It is common for the flexible cable to break at the 3 pin plug end from constantly pulling the cord / plug out of the socket or if its a retractible cord, they get broken where the cord enters the machine rewinder. this happens when the cord is pulled out to its maximum length all the time and eventually cuts through the cord. I would try a new 3 pin plug first.

Testimonial: "I will try that...thanks!!"

No problems. Cut the cord back about 10cm away from the plug and fit the new one. Sometimes the cable is broken near to but not inside the plug. By cutting it a distance away, you eliminate that possibility. Dont let the cord retract without a plug on the end otherwise you will lose the cord inside the machine!

Retractable cord stuck

I wonder if there is a tangle in the cord. It could have also come off the wheel inside. Open the vacuum to see if you can untangle the wire and put it back on the wheel.

I have the Dyson DC23 with a Motorhead. Recently the motorhead has been cutting out but now doesn't work at all. We have checked for blockages and anything that may be tangled in it. It all looks...

My Dyson DC21 powerhead shuts off on its own. There is no blockage, I have reset the brushbar several times and cleaned the filters. I am frustrated! I want this problem fixed, I have had my vacuum well over 5 years :(

Our tractable cord is half-way stuck and will not retract and its all tangled inside and you cant pull it to use it

The only thing you can do is you must open it by removing the screws and take it apart your self, once open it should be apparent what to do, or take it in for the repair.

I have my vacume electrical cord tangled inside and disconnected (I can see the open end of the connection from the power cord collector wheel! I need to take the vacume apart so get access to the wire...

Since you did not provide a model number for your vacuum, it is difficult to provide any precise directions regarding disassembly.

However, most vacuum cleaners are fairly straightforward machines, and as long as you unplug the unit before you attempt any maintenance, then you should not have any trouble with the repair.

Just be sure to keep track of all the screws you remove, and if different sizes are used in different parts of the vacuum, keep them separated and labelled so you can reinstall them in the correct places later.

If the unit has a cover over the collection bag compartment, be sure to remove the cover and the bag to check for additional screws in that compartment.

Other than that, just remove the visible screws holding the cover in place and then carefully remove the cover. If you need to reconnect the power supply wires from the cord to the vacuum, you may need to use a soldering iron, depending on how they are connected.

Please comment back here to this page if you have any questions, wish to provide the model number for your unit, or just require further general assistance and I will respond as soon as I see it here.

If this was at all helpful please click on the 4 Thumbs Up helpfulness rating icon you see on this page.

Thank you very much and good luck.

Just purchased this Dyson dc24 today. brush doesn't spin after gettin tangled in a cord. removed the cord from the brush OK. I have several times: removed the brush and replaced it OK. pushed the red...

When you removed the brush roller dod you examine the end of the actual roller that is opposite from the removal opening. There is a gear that the roller fits over that may have gotten stripped when it became tangled. Check that the gear has not rounded off and look inside the roller bar to see if the area where the gear fits into may have gotten stripped as well. You might try to operate the vacuum without the roller brush installed for a few seconds just to see if the gear turns. When I say gear, it is actually a somall "post" about 1-2" long that the roller brush fits over. Hope this helps!

I have bosch forumla vaccum and cord got stuck. It is very hard for me to see the screws to open it. Could somebody help me how to open this safely.

This problem is solved easily after I found the third screw to open the top cover. You will find the third screw under the top cover where the variable regulator is. But be patience, your small mistake can screw up whole system. You will need a torx screw driver set.
Remember, dismental step by step. top cover/screw/top housing.

I found my cord retract mechanisam spring broken, I didn't put new one. Cause it could cost me more. However I just took the cable out which was tangles and kinked.
