Try replacing the Memory Card with a smaller capacity one - under 512mb at the most then remove and re-install the batteries (make sure they are charged up) It worked for me !

are you actually going to the menu button and selecting close on each screen or just hitting end or the return button to get to the home screen? If you don't actually select close in the menu screen some progams remain open. go into all applications when there press the menu key and scroll down to close this should help
Hey jamber716, I am assuming you mean the lens cover is half open and won't close or open. You could try blowing compressed air into the lens to try and dislodge whatever is making the lens cover stick. If that doesn't work I would have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician. you are right it has defective mechanism, a stucked mechanism is present. camcorder are smart it can detects error and shuts down itself for safety. earlier models dominoes the defect if the user is not quick enough to react when something goes wrong with the camera. You need professional service to fix it.

My S3 in normal home use (no sand, wet or shock) just now displayed the ?Lens cover error? message, with cover only half open. Using a tooth pick I ?eased? it gently and it popped open, took a few trial pictures- fine, but would not fully close unless eased. Now will open and close slowly on own but error message blocks camera use. Then spotted cause - a loose thin sliver of silver trim from below flash around (there?s a gummy substance where it should be). When I first saw one end of this it was between the lens cover and the camera body as tho part of the mechanism, so I did not touch it. Now I know it?s jamming the lens cover operation is it OK to open the camera case to get it out? Questions: (a) Has anyone done this please? (b) Will this clear error message? Thanks.
If the lens is not coming out, its stuck, or it wont completely open or close, that is the lens assembly, that needs to be repaired. You need to take it to somebody, that can either repair it or replace it for you. There is nothing that can be done, other than that......

If the lens cover does not open completely due to some mechanical problem, the camera will not work (there are switches to detect cover full open and full closed).
Probably needs some repair, cleaning or replacing the cover gears
