Consider NOT connecting the camera to the computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

SOURCE: can not download pictures

Your OS may have updated and not provided the driver for the camera. Try any or all of these steps that apply to your situation.

Here are the steps to take.

1. Establish whether or not you have a connection between your camera/computer by going to your start button, control panel, system, hardware tab and device manager. The camera must be powered on and in playback mode (should automatically go to playback mode when connected, camera's screen should go black if there is a connection). Make sure you have a fully or nearly fully charged battery in your camera.

2. Once in device manager, look under Imaging Devices. If your camera is properly connected it should show up as Canon Powershot SD800. If it shows a yellow exclamation point, there is a driver issue, and even if it doesn't show a yellow exclamation point, you may want to update your driver anyway by right clicking and having the system search automatically for driver updates. If download of driver begins, great...once finished, restart camera and your problem may be resolved.

3. If there are any other imaging devices, you may have to temporarily disable them to avoid conflicts.

4. If you have any other imaging software running, exit or close the program in your system tray (down by your clock in the right hand corner of your computer's desktop.

5. Try again to connect.

6. If you are on a desktop, try a rear usb port vs. a front port. You can also try a different port on a laptop. After each change, try restarting camera to establish connection.

7. Go to start/My Computer and look for the icon for your camera...you will be able to download images even without Canon software loaded onto computer so this is not a software issue if you have no hardware connection. If you see the icon, right click on it and choose Get or Import pictures. From there the default Microsoft scanner and camera wizard should launch and you will be able to import your images.

8. If still no connection, try going to Start/Run and type in services.msc here you are looking for 4 services to be running. Check under status of each service and make sure it reads that each of these services are started.

  • Canon Camera Access Library 8 (if Canon software loaded)
  • SSDP discovery service
  • Universal Plug and Play Device Host
  • Windows Image Acquisition
Once all of these services are started on your computer, restart camera once again. If any of the last three services are not on your computer or are not started, connecting will be a problem.

If all of these steps fail, try purchasing an SD card reader from your local electronics store for around $12 and download images from there. Canon also offers lifetime technical support for your Powershot, so give them a call if none of these steps work or if you would like someone to walk you through it.

Best of luck to you!

SOURCE: computer won't recognize camera download

go to Canon's website and find the most recent version of the software that came with the camera. If that doesn't work then uninstall everything again, verify the device is not in your device manager anywhere then start over but DO NOT plug in the camera until you've upgraded to the most recent software version. Once fully updated plug it in and see what happens, should work.

Dxg-538 camera when i put disc in for it wont load up so camera memory card wont download pics

You can try downloading the software from the manufacturer's website, but an easier way to get the pictures off the memory card would be to just plug the camera into your computer (your operating system should recognize it) and explore it as if it were a USB drive.

DON`T HAVE A DISC TO INSTALLATION

you dont need it..if you plug it into your computer, open up My Computer and Windows will recognize it as a device. There you can drag pictures from the camera to your computer without the need for the software. If you do want it though, I would google the type of camera you have and put "software" behind it. There should be a link for the manufactures homepage where you should be able to download it from their website.

I lost my cd and need to download pictures to my computer, but when I put in the chip, the computer doesnt recognize it, so it does nothing. So if I dont have the cd, what do I do?

A lot of people assume that they must use the cable and sofware that came with the camera in order to download their photos. The problem is that the cable/camera way is very problematic. This link provides a solution to that lost cable, lost software disc, or computer that just fails to recognize the camera.

Cannot get Sony Handycam to connect via USB to my laptop

Hi Ken,
I have a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD610 and I had a simular problem today when trying to download videos I took as a test. I downloaded the software, then connected the power cord from the wall to the camera, then the USB cord from the camera to the computer. The software was suppose to automatically open up and recognize that the camera was plugged into the computer, but it didn't. I could not get the videos to download. So I called the Sony company and they were so nice and helpful. The man stayed with me and walked me through entirely on how to do it. You see I didn't finalize the disk. I only had DVD-R discs and I didn't realize that it must be finalized. After we finalized the disc, then I was told to take the disc out of the camera and insert it into the computer disc drive and then he proceeded to show me how to get them downloaded. If you need more step by step instructions, please let me know. Good Luck

Downloading photos

If you are using Windows XP unplug your camera from your PC and uninstall the Kodak software. You don't need it to transfer photos to your PC. The next time you connect your camera (turn the camera on) to your computer it should recognize it and you can use Windows built in transfer software. SiPix SC3300 camera...need driver for Vista

QUESTIONS! ONE, DOES YOUR CAMERA HAVE A SOFTWARE DISC WITH IT? AND TWO, HAVE YOU ATTEMPTED TO DOWNLOAD THE DRIVER FROM YOUR CAMERA WEBSITE TO YOUR COMPUTER. THREE, YOUR COMPUTER WON'T RECOGNIZE YOUR CAMERA WHEN YOU CONNECT IT TO YOUR COMPUTER? USUALLY, MOST NEWER COMPUTERS WILL RECOGNIZE MOST CAMERAS WHEN THEY ARE CONNECTED VIA USB, FIREWIRE, AND TURNED ON. IF THIS IS NOT HAPPENING, THEN I WOULD SAY YOU NEED TO FIND THE DRIVER FROM YOUR CAMERA WEBSITE AND DOWNLOAD IT. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU
