I am trying to install my new Big Pond elite next G USB device onto my desktop computer. I have Windows XP Professional and sufficient memory. When I insert the USB into either of the two slots on my CPU a message comes up saying the the "device is not recognised". All my Flash Drive USBs work when inserted in these same slots. I have installed this same Big Pond USB device on my laptop which has Windows Vista with no problems. What is the problem and how do I rectify it?

You may have to udate your usb drivers, right click on my computer and goto properties, in the properties window goto hardware then device manager. This will bring a tree with all of you connected peripharels, scroll down until you see the usb and click on the + sign to bring all the usb drivers up, right click on all and click update driver and use the internet option to search for updated drivers, when finished install the g usb device and it should work, good luck and post back if you have any dificulties.

Thanks jimnuggats for your speedy reply. Yes, I think the problem is to do with not having the latest usb drivers. However as the Big Pond USB device is not yet installed on my desktop computer I cannot access the internet to find updated usb drivers. I can access the internet via my laptop computer however. Is there a free site from which I could download these usb drivers onto a usb flash drive on my laptop and then transfer this to my desktop?

  • Anonymous Sep 26, 2010

    http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/v...

Try the above site to download the latest usb driver, copy and paste it to the text bar at the top of your browser.

Alternatively you could get hold of a cat5 network cable, connect your pc to the router direct as a wired connection, download the updates direct. Uplug the cable when updating has finished, and plug the usb wireless dongle back in, and you should be up and running. hope this helps. post back again if you have problems.

No that is not the driver, you clicked on the large download icon, that is a driver program that you will have to pay for, if you scroll down a little further you will see "click here to download" in bold blue writting, click on that and you will be directed to the download page, the download should start in a couple of secs, post back if you need any more help thanks.

Oh - OK have downloaded the correct one this time but am now away from my desktop for a few days so will get back to you then and let you know how I go. Thanks very much - hopefully this will work. I don't want to have to pay Telstra to fix this problem so any tips I can get are much appreciated.

Hi jimnuggats - my son who is a computer engineer has offered to spend of some of his scant spare time to have a look at my problem with the USB drivers - he actually put my computer together for me so I have passed on the downloaded USB drivers, that you recommended, to him to decide whether this is what is needed or not. Hopefully he can sort out the problem having put the computer together. I will get back to you and let you know what the problem was - someone else may benefit from knowing how to fix this problem. It may be a week or two before I get back to you. In the meantime thank you for your help - it may yet come in handy.

I was given a computer with a homemade tower... I need to factory reset it but don't know how??

Basically you need the Windows installation CD plus the product installation code. Boot up with the Windows installation CD to install Windows on the hard disk, follow the on screen instructions - delete the existing Windows partition, create a new partition and format the new partition (full NTFS format - not a quick format) and continue with the installation.
Next you need to install the motherboard device drivers, you can download them from the motherboard manufacturer's WEB site from a computer with internet access. Copy these drivers onto an USB memory stick and insert this memory stick into you PC tower and install these drivers.
After installing these drivers you can now connect to the Internet to activate your Windows, You can activate Windows over the phone.

Put the memory-stick into the USB slot.
Browse to ACER's web-site, and select your specific model of the Aspire line, and select Windows XP, and select network-controllers, and download the device-drivers, and copy them onto the memory-stick,.
Walk the memory-stick to your Acer, and install the device-driver.

Ethernet controller and USB are missing on XP

Yes, the device-drivers can be downloaded from the Internet, to one computer, and then burned onto a CD-writable, or written to a USB memory-stick, and then the files can be physically moved to the other computer.

But, "which" device-drivers is completely dependent on which computer that you have. Some motherboards have "integrated" network-adapters and "integrated" USB-ports.

Easiest solution is to take an add-in PCI network-adapter card, and install it, and connect the Ethernet cable to its socket.
Hopefully, Windows will recognize that card, and automatically load the correct device-drivers from the C: drive, i.e., without Internet access.
Or, if you buy an add-in card, it may come with a CD-ROM that contains the device-driver.

Once the device-drivers have been installed, you will have Internet connectivity. Access: http://WindowsUpdate.Microsoft.com
and click "Custom" scan, and then click "Optional Hardware".
Windows Update should find the device-drivers for your motherboard, and install them. Then, you can remove the add-in card, and connect the Ethernet cable to the "on-mother-board" network socket.

How do i get my computer to use my external hard drive which i just installed

Which Operating system are you currently using? By default XP/Vista/7 should have generic drivers sufficient for using the device as external storage, To Check and make sure the drive is being properly recognized simply double click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop if using windows XP. Or in Vista/Windows 7, click on the Start Button and then scroll over to Computer and Click. the hard drive should be listed in there. Take note of the drive letter . If you'd like to save items to it simply save to the new drive ( when within the program of your choice, Word, Windows Media Player etc ) by selecting the new drive in the "Save To" Window. ( Be Default most windows systems should store all information on the C:\ Drive ) your new external drive should be listed with a different letter ( F:\ G:\ etc )
