  • 1 Insert the problematic 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo into your PSP and turn the system on.
  • 2 Select "Settings" from the cross media bar and scroll down to "System Settings." Press "X" to access the sub menu and select "Format Memory Stick."
  • 3 Press "X" to confirm the formatting of the stick. Your PSP will delete any content on the stick and reformat to match how the PSP stores data and organizes files.

How to format a sony 4gb memory stick pro duo

Why do you need to format. If using on Sony products its ready to go no need to format. If needing formatting your PC will tell you so and will give you the option to do so by selecting yes to format and will do it for you.... Do not format unless prompet to do so

Misfunctioning 4GB memory stick pro duo

Are you formatting it with your computer or PSP?

  1. Push the little HOME button on the bottom left of the face of the unit.
  2. Use the arrow keys to move to the SETTINGS area, then move the up and down keys until you get to System Settings.
  3. Once you are there, click on the "X" button and scroll up and down as needed to find Format Memory Stick. Click on "X" again to select that option.
  4. The Sony PSP will now confirm that you want to reformat the memory stick (which removes every file and game save thereon, of course): choose yes and it'll format in just a few seconds.
It that doesn't work - try formatting it with your computer.

PSP not detecting files on a 4gb memory stick PRO Duo

There are certain folders that the PSP puts on the stick when it formats it. Format the new stick on the PSP first. Then, you can transfer you files to it.

Problem in formatting corrupt memory stick

Sorry to hear that but I reckon it ceased for good, at times their not 100% reliable but you can try using an adaptor with it via your PC to see if you can retrieve all your data’s but the chance is slim from experience, you might be looking to get a new one, if you did buy new one try backup it up from time to time via your PC or alternative storage so you can retrieve your data’s when your memory card come to a halt
