Toshiba A60 Not Booting

My Toshiba A60 will not boot up.

When I turn the laptop on the in touch with tomorrow stays on for longer than usual, it eventually disapears and then starts too boot up and the black windows home edition logo appears with the green status bar at the bottom, after about 10 seconds the status bar freezes and thats as far as I get.

I've tried a new HDD reloaded recovery disk and the same happends, the machine just freezes at this point.

I've ran memory checker program (which found no errors) for around an hour without any issues. The machine also doesn't freeze when loading the recovery software!!

HELP!!!!

I have tried 2 HDD's on the machine, one of which is brand new.

I have then placed the HDD's into another machine and installed XP and Vista without any issues.

I'm thinking it could be Processor or System board.

Many thanks for that, I have used the 2 HDD's in another machine to test and installed XP on them and they both work without any issues.

Where do you think I should explore next? Processor or motherboard?

You might want to run a harddrive diagnostic test. You can find bootable iso's on the harddrive manufacturers website.

Check system then press f1 key

Try this:

Instructions
    • 1

Insert the Toshiba A60 recovery disc into the CD/DVD-ROM drive.

    • 2

Power off the Toshiba (with the recovery disc still loaded inside the optical drive).

    • 3 Hold down the "F12" key, at the same time hit the "Power" button to turn the system back on. You don't have to hold down the Power button, but keep holding the F12 key.
    • 4

Release the "F12" key when the" In Touch with Tomorrow TOSHIBA" screen is displayed. This will open up the BIOS.

    • 5

Change the boot order by using the arrow keys to select "CD/DVD ROM" icon in the menu. The Toshiba will now boot from the recovery disc and restore the system. Follow any additional on-screen instructions.

My toshiba laptop wont stay on, wheneve I turn it on it automatically powers off

I have the solution for the non booting Toshiba that I wrote almost a year ago. This tutorial (written and pics from the repair of my m35) is applicable to laptops that shut down without any warning, laptops that turn on only sometimes, and laptops that simply refuse to turn on (LEDs blink, fan spins up for a second and then everything just goes dead). So if your laptop does not turn on, it goes completely dead within a few minutes after bootup, here's the link to the tutorial. The repair takes about an hour, there's no need of replacing any parts, reinstalling any software or any other thing. The only investment in repairing your laptop with this tutorial is your time. Basically, you can repair your laptop within the hour, without spending any money for any parts or software.

Boot from usb

Sounds like the boot order menu is what you have. Set the boot order menu to try other devices before the hard drive. (Example: CD/DVD drive, floppy; if present, USB devices, hard drive). You should have a default key for accessing the boot menu (usually f11 or f12). Hit this key and choose the USB option. Make sure the device you want to boot to is already connected before you turn on the laptop.
