My son set the Kitchen timer so he thought, he turned the power on for 20 minutes. My other son stopped the Microwave at 6 minutes in and went to set the Kitchen timer correctly, after that there was no power what so ever. We replaced the PCB and the ceramic fuse, with no improvment. I have read about the Magnatron as a culprit. Need help.

SOURCE: Microwave will not turn off

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or occasionally a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. Other times, it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa:.

You can probably find exploded views and order parts by entering your model number here at the Sears parts site.

There may also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

If you think the problem is on the control panel, we repair these nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in most cases.

We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

My microwave was set at 20 minutes 17 minutes it went blank

Good Afternoon Friend, this is Z. Thank you for your post!

Let's try resetting your microwave by either unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker off. It is good to wait approximately ten minutes and then turn on your appliance. If resetting the power does not correct the issue, then it could possibly be a few things: faulty fuse, open thermostat, TCO (thermal cutout), magnetron, a bad connection with the control board or a potential wiring failure. Because it could be a number of any one of several underlying causes, I would recommend contacting a professional to properly diagnose and repair your microwave.

LG Microwave ran empty for 20 minutes

I recommend you have a service man come in because it is more than a fuse, the keypad control board will need to be checked along with the rest of the system.

No power at display!

You've probably destroyed your magnetron, and the magnetron thermostat.

This kind of abuse will not be covered under warranty.

It will likely run about $75 for a technician to visit the home, $75 to do the work, $75-90 for the magnetron, and about $15 for the thermostat.

Microwave may have overheated

There are two thermal protectors which may be blown. If so, it will measure open (infinity) instead of closed (zero ohms).

One is located on the magnetron and one is on top of the oven cavity.

(There is also one located on the floor / base of the microwave but that one's not at issue.)

The magnetron thermal protector *may* be accessible by removing the control panel, but to access the oven cavity thermal protector, you will have to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions here are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can order parts from Encompass here or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

GE JVM1640SJ03 Microwaver will not work

The pop was probably the high voltage rectifier diode blowing.

Also, what usually happens when a microwave is run empty is that the magnetron overheats and the thermostat opens and kills power to the unit until it cools back down, then the microwave comes back on in the off condition, ready for you to set the clock.

I would suspect you need to replace the diode and the thermostat, then once it powers up you can test to see if the magnetron still works.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here. Those are very handy if you have to remove it from the wall to replace the magnetron should it be bad, too.

Microwave re-started

The Start pad on the keypad may be starting to short. If so, a new keypad (membrane switch) would fix it.

If you might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved. It's at
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/keypad_replacement.pdf

We have critical safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

The part # needed is A64795790AP "membrane switch" for $46.88 available here.
