Do the DVD drive detect the DVD disc, if it does not please clean the drive first. If it detects, does it give codec error, if it does please install the codec which is available free of cost, just google it. If it does not give codec error, try to play it with vlc player, it plays most of the files, and it has a capability of fixing on its own most of the damage file.

reinstallation after formating is the best solution,.
