I have a Xerox 7400 Phaser. It prints out the most beautiful colored pages. These ranger from almost all black with some red and green dots to bright purple with pink edges looking something like tie-dyed pages.
What do I need to do to fix it?
It was printing fine until I replaced the cyan fuser.
That is a failure of the drum heater.
The easy way to determine if they are working is this.
Shut the machine off, turn the lights off in the office, or room the
machine is in. Turn the machine back on. On the right side of the
machine, there is a slotted area where the fan it, look in there and
watch for a glow in the machine. Give it a minute or two, but if you
don't see that glow, those heaters are not working.
They are not impossible to change, but requires some patience and care in replacing.
They are only, well if you live in North America, 120 volt, 150 watt halogen lamps. The simply burn out a filament.
You can go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy those. Or some local service Dealer could do that for you at a decent price.
If you want to try replacing those yourself, let me know, I will send you the procedure. Provide me your E-mail address and I will tell you how to replace those.
Please, do not pay the Xerox price for a new drum heater assembly, you will be stunned what they want for that item.
It really only requires replacing the bulbs, and most likely cleaning the contacts with some emery cloth.
