Microphone port won't show up in Windows 7 control panel

Make sure the mic is plug in on the microphone port. If you're using windows 7, you can start setting up your microphone.

1. Click Start & go to control panel.
2. Click on speech and recognition.
3. Click on set up microphone.

if your running windows, go to the start bar, look for control panel and go to microphone and speaker settings, it might be shut off for some reason. or it can hep you see what the problem is.

Double click on the sound icon in the systray to launch volume control. Go to options, properties to enable the microphone properties. Make sure the mute option box is not checked under microphone.

if your in vista, go to start, control panel, speech recognition options, then set up microphone.

If you using Windows Vista / XP go tp control panel from there go to speech recognisation and there you will see a option that says set-up Microphone make the necessary changes if microphone is disabled right click go to its properties and enable it.

for Vista system ... use the following picks:
Start ....Control Panel,...... Hardware and Sound, .... Manage audio devices....Recording......Line in ...try the advanced features to control the computers auto adjustment etc.

Your jack may have been damaged, or the apple mic may not be compatible. Purchase another pc compatible mic to check. Or you could try a multimedia headset with mic that plugs into your usb port. Take a look at RadioShack for headsets, I saw one in a store near me. and they should have them online.

to activate builtin microphone do following step:-

1- double click on volume icon (right side down of ur desktop), Playback control window open.

2- In playback control window click on options>properties.

3- In properties windows u see "adjust volume for" area , here click on "recording".

4- while click on "recording" down u will see option for ur recording devices (Line In, Microphone,S/PDIF in etc ) select on microphone and click ok.

5- now u will see " Recording Control " window here select microphone and adjust volume for microphone

Ok now u will turn on ur Microphone Try to chat with anyone to ensure ur microphone is working.

You would need to purchase one from an electronics store. You should be able to get one relatively cheap. There should be 2 inputs on the side of the laptop (they both look like headphone jacks) and one of them will have a picture of a microphone next to it. Use that one. You might also have to adjust your volume settings in the sound mixer but skype probably has a built in utility for that.
