I have a Mitsubishi WS-65809 system and I can't get it to stay on. When I hit the power button, the green timer button comes on for about 2 seconds then goes off. I saw that I can press the Menu and Input buttons and I get 2 blinks followed immediately by another 2 blinks on the timer LED. Can anyone tell me what that means and how it can be fixed?

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Error code 2-2 means short protect which is either caused by bad convergence ICs and/or 2 Pico fuses (F9A05 and F9A04). You’ll need to open the back of the unit and replace the parts that have gone bad to resolve this issue.
Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

This doesn't seem like an easy fix. Will I need to take out the boards to remove these fuses?

  • Anonymous Jul 16, 2010

Yup right, Please check this picture to know the location of convergence ICs:

Thans for the information. I was able to locate the IC's behind the heat sink. I have removed all of the screws and am ready to remove the board, but I am having difficulty removing the ribbon cable.

Can you give me some insight in how to release the cable. I'm afraid of causing an more damage.

I have included a picture for clarification.

I have a mitsubishi model ws-65809. i press the power button the green light comes on then it shuts back off.

IF YOU have unplugged it plug it back and try to turn it on, when green power light goes out:

On the front of the set press and hold BOTH the menu and input buttons at the same time--hold both for at least 5 seconds and release both.

This is the self check this set has: power light will blink a 2 digit error code like 2 blinks, 2 blinks, a pause and repeat it several times.

The 2,2 error code is the most common and is short protection and I know if that code how to fix the set---for many customers it can be a do it yourself fix with parts cost under 35 dollars total.

Let me know what code you get and I will try to help you.

Fixed over 1,000 of these Mitsubishi sets.

The tv wont power on and the green timer light continuously blinks. I have unplugged the the tv and also hit the reset button.

...OK to begin troubleshooting this. Unplug the set and leave for 1 min then plug up and leave for 2 min push the power button and let light blink for 2 min.... now push and hold at the same time the MENU and DEVICE buton st the same time. this is the self diagnoses feature ... the lights should link then pause then blink again... this 2 digit code will help narrow it down. Also have you check the lamp yet?

Stays on for 2 seconds and switches off

A 2-2 code on that unit means over current shutdown. 95% of the time that code indicates defective convergence output IC's.

Green light flikering

Replace all 7 capacitors in the DM Module on the DM Power Supply Board. If it is similar to the WS-65869 and WS-65513 it will have a metal enclosed DM Module at far left of chassis, looking from rear. About 4 or 5 connectors, screws, and Module slides out. Take top shield off. Take good notes or use digital camera or video recorder to make re-assembly easy. These capacitors are 1000uf@16 volts. They always check good, just replace them! After re-assembly plug AC in and wait 90 seconds or more (green Timer LED will stop blinking), then press Power button. If Timer LED doesn't stop, look for small pinhole (System Reset) and press switch with pen or small screwdriver, then wait for green LED to stop blinking. Then Power On TV.

Mitsubishi WS- 65809 65 INCH

If your TV is not powering on you probably blew the power supply. These TV are sensitive to power surges. Be sure to use a power strip with power filtering technology (different from a surge protector) costing around $80.00
