Question about Dell E151FP 15" Flat Panel LCD Monitor

15" Dell monitor

My monitor seems to be working fine except for the fact that everything is sideways. I have to put my monitor on it's side to view anything. Does anyone know how to adjust this.

It did this the other day and I just shut the computer down then restarted it, now it keeps coming up that way. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with windows because when it starts up the DELL comes across the screen the right way it's not until the desktop comes up that everything is sideways

You have your video card set to rotate the screen after Windows loads.

Go into your display properties using it's control panel and look for the rotate section. Set it back to 0 degrees. Make sure you click apply and then OK, not just OK.

Windows XP has a funny key command that rotates the screen. Its Ctrl + Alt + any directional key (up, down, left, right) depending on which way you would like to rotate your view.
I know this works on Windows XP Home edition, not sure that it works on Professional.

If you would start the Dell in safe mode, you should be able to adjust the display settings to values that will work with the monitor. Or remove the monitor in the device manager and let windoze detect and configure the monitor on the next boot.

Do you have the same issue when the cable is disconnected from the computer? If so, and the the brightness function doesn't change, then you have an IC Chip failure and the replacement boards are not available to you or me as Dell is Dell and everything from them is proprietary. If you are under warranty pursue that if not, time to replace. Consider this a time, unwanted time, but time to upgrade.

Oh, your right about the sacrificial diode on the power card... you wouldn't see anything.

Hope this fixed ya.

Worldvet

Repeated power cycles after a couple of hours running.

I have a Dell 15" Flat Panel with the same symptoms. I found that if I tapped on the monitor, it would work for awhile which suggested a loose connection. I dismantled the monitor and removed the main board so that I could see the soldered connections. With the board positioned with the power connection facing away from me, I inspected all solder joints on the main board using a magnifying glass. On the left side, I saw two capacitors and found insufficient solder around the leg of one of the capacitors. I touched a soldering iron with a small dab of solder to the connection. After reassembling, I have experienced no further cycling. Going on two weeks now, it seems to have cured the problem.
