sounds like a LCD fault could be just a ribbon cable connection. If double checking your batteries are good and removing the mem card has no effect then it may have to go for professional service.

When I plug my Canon SX110 IS into my macbook pro, nothing happens. How am I supposed to upload pictures?

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

I have lost my manual for my Canon Powershot SX110 IS. Until I replace the manual, can you tell me how to delete pictures from the camera after I have uploaded them? Thank you!

Sure. The fast way is to format the memory card. As soon as you are SURE all your pics are downloaded, disconnect the camera and do a format. Fast and painless. Its good to format a camera occasionally anyway. No error checking. Even Locked photos are erased!!
