you can always get this setting done in your printing preference once your printer is correctly installed. In the printer preference, check the tab that talks about colour, there you will find an option that says " print in grayscale" or "use black catridge only" check this option and your printer will print only in black whenever u want.
#1, is your color catridge(s) installed correctly (sometimes they still have the little "strip" on them when installed, removed plastic)
and maybe #2, when you print, is the box marked "Print in Grayscale" checked? Find the "color" tab in the Print dialogue box when it pops up, locate the check box, and uncheck it... that may be your solution :)
There is a setting in the print dialogue that allows you to set that the printer prints only in grayscale. There is a chance that you have that setting changed and it is printing in grayscale each time you print by default.
You are getting black lines in green color, and apperence of parallel light and dark lines because your colour catridge is almost empty. So solution is replace the catridge and take a printout. There is no proplem with a printer. i think it solves your problem.
Too few manufacturers will allow their units to print in grayscale when a color toner is low or empty. The only way to get your unit working is by installing the required toner. By the way, start a budget to buy the transfer belt, drum unit, waste toner bottle and fuser unit. These are also consumables with a lifecycle.
