Insert a disk. Wait for the disk-spinning to stop.
Open "My Computer".
Double-click the icon for the CD/DVD drive, to see if Windows can read anything from the disk.

The best way to resolve this problem is to replace the entire drive - you can get a replacement drive online. Use Google to find several vendors to choose from. It sound like the laser lens is trying to focus but cannot and thus you hear the lens rubbing against the disc - this can ruin many of your valuable games you have recently inserted in the drive. DO NOT INSERT ANYMORE DISC INTO IT!

Put game in and nothing happens. Hear a clicking sound when I turn it on.

sounds like either the drive holder, the piece that holds the disc in place while spinning, is broken. either that or you aren't pushing the disc all the way down. if its neither of those, it may be the motor of the drive not spinning the disc.

My 360 wont ******* play

i had the same problem. listen to your xbox cd rom and if you hear it start up and kinda skip or make a weird stopping sound then your disc drive/ cd-rom is wearing out. either send it in or do what i did and start by just giving the center to the center left above your cd-rom a nice few taps in a row while its spinning before it stops. fairly good knocks on the case will help it. i ended up really hittin mine a lot of time in row after about a month. sometimes it will put rings on your games thought but they buff out. i even took it apart but theres not much you can do

Just spins

This sounds like a samsung drive, the laser is probably dead or on its way out or it could also be the small belt that is stretched and to weak to shut the drive properly, either way the machine will need to be stripped down and repaired.

we can get this back to normal for you just email us at www.fixmyconsole.co.uk

Xbox wont start spinning disc

Sounds like your drive died. Try looking inside to make sure nothing is stuck insde the drive (disc label, another disc, lumps of dust). Try spraying it out with canned air (they sell it at computer stores). If not.. send it to microsoft for repair.

Disk wont spin?

If its still under warranty, and the seal hasn't been cracked, contact Microsoft.

Try what hijackthis1 suggested, if that doesn't fix it, try this.

Since you have the 360 apart, and the top cover off of the dvd drive, here we go...

There's a circular cut-out that's glued to the top cover that you removed from the dvd drive, right below the sticker with all of the drive information. I was able to pop out the cut-out. After that you now have (3) pieces in your hand, the cover, cut-out, and a plastic piece.

Connected the dvd drive back in the 360 with the top cover off.

Put a game or movie in the drive, don't hit the eject botton, just put the disc in the tray.

Now with the disc in the tray, put the plastic piece in the center of the disc. Its magnetic, so it should kind of lock in to place.

Connect the power/av cords in the 360 and turn her on.

You should see the disc try to spin. (It may spin once or a couple times around, but it will stop). When you see the disc start to spin, GENTLE, spin/turn the disc in the direction in wants to go. It should load the game or dvd with no problems.

Reassemble the cover and put back on the dvd drive.

Now use the eject botton, and try games and dvds.

If disc fails to spin, do process over again.

I've done this with one of my 360's with no problems.
The drive I used was an Hitachi 0059DJ.

PS2 Slim Will Not Read Games

HI Pepper,

You need to try clenaing the Laser Lens. This is done by Using Q-tip and a window cleaner like Windex. Lightly Dampen one end of the Q-Tip and swab the lens with a slight bit of aggression. Use the Dry end of the swab to dry the lens. Try it out. Also you could have your laser gear popped out. look at the long worm gear to be sure it is stuck in the black holder. This should help you. In the unfortunate event it does not, you probably need a new laser. I do think you will get it working becasue you hear the Disc spinning. If the Laser was really dead, the disc would not spin as in it cannot tell the computer the laser sees a disc. Does the same thing as though no disc is in the drive bay. Contact me at [email protected] if you need service.

CDPops Out *EDITED*

Does it pop out immediately? If not, listen carefully to the drive after you insert the disc. Can you hear the disc spinning? Any activity from the laser? If the disc is not spinning but you can hear the faint whirring and clicking of the laser transport, it could be that the laser itself has failed - it's the laser that detects if a CD is present. If it doesn't detect anything (due to being knackered!), the disc will not spin and will eject.
