I have hp officejet j4660. when I try to scan, the message appear: no scan options, refer to device documentation to troubleshoot

no scan option means scan setting are not set on the printer. Before you can scan directly from the printer control panel, you must have the printer's Full Feature software package installed on your computer .If you ran the installer and installed everything, then scanner software should be installed on the pc.there must be solution center icon on the computer,as well.Below are the troubleshooting steps for no scan options issue. STEP 1:Download the Scan Diagnostic Utility (click on the link below) http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&lc=en&lang=en&softwareitem=oj-90927-2 download and run the tool.select the product and click on diagnose.if the printer is not in the box.skip this step. STEP 2: Set up the scan destination list
  • click on the solution center icon on the computer
  • click on settings on the bottom, click on scan settings, click on either scan..to setup or button settings
  • click on scan to setup (front panel list)
  • if this is what you have, then you should transfer all items on the left- hand side to the right-side by clicking on one item and clicking on add until everything is transferred.click on update device.
  • sayurisan20_17.jpg
  • it should look like this.
  • sayurisan20_18.jpg
  • try scanning to pc again
  • you can also try to scan from the pc using the solution center software
  • if the steps above fails, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the software or check this link out for no scan options

I need to scan a printed page into a txt file using Notepad. Gone through the Lexmark Imaging option and attempted to scan, Come up with a message about installing OCR software. I can't find original...

The Lexmark OCR scan software allows you to scan documents to your computer. It enables you to scan to PDF or scan a document and convert to text to edit. The Lexmark OCR scan software is only available in the install disk that came with your printer. Please contact Lexmark technical support for assistance. Thanks.

Scan error try scan from computer or see documentation Press ok!!!

There are two ways to make your printer scan.

You can tell it to scan by pressing the keys on the front of the printer

OR

You can tell it to scan by using the software that came with your printer that is installed in your computer.

Your error message is saying that you are trying to scan by pressing the button on your printer and you have not set up this option yet. It is saying to check your documentation for instructions on how to set up this option if you wish to use it or try scanning using the software in your computer instead.

Go ahead and press "ok", if you have not done so already to clear the print que.

Then what I need to know from you is which option above do you want to use to initiate a scan from your printer?

In order to scan using the keys on your printer, you need to have an application (software) installed on your computer that it can recognize and send the image to. The printer will send the image to just about any graphics or photo editing software and others like Microsoft Word, or the photosmart software that came on your driver disk.

Make sure you have one or more of the above software titles installed on your computer, then press the "scan" button on the printer. The first time you set it up, you will see a message that says something similar to "gathering applications list" please wait. That means that your printer is connecting to your computer and checking for software that it recognizes and will scan to. Once a program is located it will then ask you where you want to send the image to and give you a list of acceptable applications it found installed. You use the up and down arrow keys on the printers keyboard to scroll the list until you see the one you wish to use then press the "ok" or "enter" key. Then just follow the prompts on your printers display and it will scan and send the image to your computer screen.

Using the keys on the printer is tougher to learn then scanning through the software on your pc.

If you want to try scanning by using the software, follow these instructions below:

Install the software that came with your printer on the driver installation disk. If you don't have the software or disk you can download a copy of the program from HP's website (http://www.hp.com). Look for downloads and then enter your printer make and model and follow the instructions to download and install on your pc.

Once the software is installed, turn on your printer and insert the document or photo you want to scan. Then open the program on your pc and click on the "scan" option (choose scan document, or scan picture or scan mixed ect.).

The pc will send the scan command to your printer, it will warm up and then send a copy of the image to your computer screen and ask if it is acceptable. If it is, choose "accept" and it will save a copy of the image file on your computer and stop. Double click on the image to open it for editing ect. Once you are happy with the finished product, click on "file" and then choose "save as" and pick a place that you will remember for easy locating then name the image and close it.

If you have any questions or encounter problems with the instructions above, just come back to this question and send me your concers through the "comment" section and I will help you solve this.

Click on the "Scan" option

Scanning

This message will come up when you are scanning from the Stand alone printer not from the computer.

If the software is sucessfully installed in your computer,
Then you should have a icon which says HP Director / HP Solution Center (If not Goto> Start> All Programs> HP and then you will see them
Open HP Director/Solution Center and try scanning from there, It should scan from there.
If yes then go to settings> Scann Settings> Scan to setup> There you see an option which says Front panel Destination list> Click that and there you see a options says Restore Defaults> Click that> then Apply and Ok> And close all the indows and try scanning from the All-In-One.

If it does not work then try the steps bellow:

Go To:
My computer>C:windows>system32
Copy hpzipm12
minimize this window
Right click on Start button on the computer>Explore>Programs>Startup>edit>paste
minimize this window.
Go back to My computer>C:>windows>system32
Copy hpzinw12
minimize this window

Right click on Start button on the computer>Explore>Programs>Startup>edit>paste
Now you will see two new files in Startup
Now go to My Computer>C:Program Files>HP>Digital Imaging>bin>
Copy hpqtra08
close this window
Right click on Start button on the computer>Explore>Programs>Startup>edit>paste
Restart the computer
Open Hp Solution Center> Settings>Scan settings and preferences> Scan to button>
check destination list> if available applications are not in the destination list then add them in the front panel destination
Tried to scan.

Outlook Express

It is not a big problem, you can disable this notification withing 'options' from the main toolbar within Outlook Express.

Be sure to check if you have enough disk space on your computer and consider a 'disk cleanup' too.

This can be accessed from Start / Programs / Accessories / System Tools.

Good luck,

Erik.
