SOURCE: Tomtom rider 1 not charging when on bike

TOMTOM are VERY aware of this problem. but deny it is an issue!
I had the same problem, they sent me a new shoe after weeks of emails. I told them that the shoe is not the problem, it's the connector on the back of the TT1. Because of the springloaded pins fitted to the shoe and the poor quality connectors on the TT the normal vibration on a motorcycle causes the pins to wear holes in the connectors on the TT causing intermittant connection.
As the cost of repairing or replacing these connectors is very high and there are a large number of units that would require this repair TT are ignoring it.
I'm now looking at a way of bypassing the connector altogether.
A temporary solution appears to be to smear the contacts on the back of the rider with a little petroleum grease or WD40 - seems to work for a couple of weeks at a time.

SOURCE: Garmin Nuvi 750 car cradle/charger does not charge

Hi tbrick

if you dont have the original charger, the 750 take a special car charger because of the traffic feature...it has a flat end about 3/4" to 1" long that fits in the cradle, but you can use a garmin usb charger, you just wont be able to use the traffic feature.

if thats a little confusing ( i tend to do that) i try and explain it another way.

if you think you need or want one of those chargers, just post back to me.

Problem with my tomtom go 910, was working perfectly until i went on vacation for five weeks. Went to use it and could not switch it on so i thought the battery must be low, so i was going out in the car...

1. Connect the GO to your home charger and charge it for at least two hours. You need to charge your ONE or GO300 for at least 2 hours using the 12-24V cigarette lighter adapter in your car.
2. Check if the green light on your GO lights up when connected to power (RIDER does not have this light).
3. Leave your GO connected to the power cable and RESET it using a straightened paper clip
4. Press the ON/OFF button for at least 3 seconds.

To reset your TomTom device:
1. Charge your device.
Charge your device for at least 2 hours. Make sure the charging light on your device is on (except RIDER which has no charging light).

2. Remove the SD card.
If your device uses an SD card, remove it.
3. Reset your device.
Use a straightened paper clip, or something similar, to push the reset button. For a visual representation of the reset button, see below.
4. Turn your device on.
Press and hold the On/Off button for at least 4 full seconds.
5. Insert the SD card.
If your device uses an SD card, insert the SD card.
Always make sure that you are using the latest version of the TomTom application on your device. You can update the application through TomTom HOME. If you use more than one storage card you need to update the application on each card.

Can you tell me where is the reset button on tom tom 1 IQ

I'm a little confused about which unit you have, but the answer is simple enough..... If there isn't a small hole on the bottom of the GPS, then simply hold the on/off button for approximately 15 seconds -- until the unit restarts. The small "hole" that I'm referring to will be in the same vicinity as the connector that the cable plugs into. It should say reset right by it, if the reset button is there. If you do have a reset button on the bottom of the device, you'll need to use something to press the button. A paper clip straightened out a bit works perfectly.

The following lists are from Tom Tom's website. I hope this helps:

Devices that are reset by holding the On/Off button ico_open.gif
(GO x50, Blue&Me TomTom, GO x40,
XL IQ Routes, XL,
ONE IQ Routes,
Rider Pro, Urban Rider)

Devices that are reset by pressing a reset button ico_open.gif
(GO x30, GO x20, GO x10, GO,
XL IQ Routes ², ONE XL,
ONE 3rd Edition, ONE 2nd Edition, ONE 1st Edition
TOYOTA, ECLIPSE, DAIHATSU, ECLIPSE II,
Toyota Aygo Connect Multimedia,
Start ², Start
RIDER 2nd, RIDER 1st)

I turn on my tom tom go 700 and the screen appears with a picture of the tom tom in a green box and then it stops and i wont turn of

If your TomTom GO/ONE/RIDER is frozen, won’t turn on or does not behave as it should, it can be fixed by resetting or restarting your TomTom device.
A reset will not delete any data from your device, with the exception of SMS messages on TomTom GO500/700.
  1. Connect your GO/ONE/RIDER to the power charger. If you have a power charger, use it to power your TomTom GO/ONE/RIDER. If you do not have a power charger, make sure that the battery in your TomTom GO/ONE is fully charged.
Note: You need to charge your GO/ONE for at least 2 hours using the 12-24V cigarette lighter adapter.
  2. Reset your GO/ONE/RIDER. To reset the unit, you simply have to push a straightened paper clip (or something similar) into the RESET hole on the device.
    • On TomTom GO 910/710/510, the RESET hole is located on the bottom of the device.
      tomtomgox10.jpg
    • On TomTom GO 700/500/300, the RESET hole is located on the bottom of the device with the word RESET right next to it.
      tomtomgox00.jpg
    • On TomTom ONE, the RESET hole is located on the bottom of the device, with the word RESET right next to it (just below the SD card slot).
      tomtomone.jpg
    • On TomTom RIDER, the RESET hole is on the bottom of the device, behind the SD card door. When opening the SD card door you will see the RESET hole on the left, right underneath the SD card slot.

  3. Your TomTom GO/ONE/RIDER is now reset. Finally, press and hold the power button for 2 seconds.

Tom tom rider version not charging via bike cradle either via direct connection to the bikes battery or when connected to an aux power socket. There is also no sound while attached to the car cradle /...

I recently had a bit of success with TomTom. My TomTom Rider 1 did not charge on the bike cradle, there is a known problem with the early cradles. TomTom have developed a TomTom Rider 1 replacement cradle (updated) and if you push hard they will wend you one in the post free of charge.

When i plug into car ok but when to mains nothing

First , let me say that the batteries do not fail very often. Answers here to your 3 questions in order ......
1. Your home mains charger is faulty. 2/ Your car charger is probably OK. 3/ Clip out the screen surround. Remove the 4 special STAR screws that are at the corners of the screen. Remove the main circuit board by taking out 4 smaller star screws and let it hang loose but still connected by its cables. DO NOT DISCONNECT THE BOARD CABLES. Remove the speaker . Under the speaker are 2 more screws holding a plastic bracket that clamps the battery. Remove these 2 screws and the battery clip comes off. Unplug the battery cable from the now loose main board and the battery can be removed. Fit new battery and reassemble in reverse order. NOTE , some tomtom 300's have a protective copper or foil sheild covering the main board. The screws holding the board cannot be seen until the foil is removed. Removing this foil and not repalcing it will render your tomtom more prone to interference although the tomtom will still work without it.
