Tom tom rider version not charging via bike cradle either via direct connection to the bikes battery or when connected to an aux power socket. There is also no sound while attached to the car cradle / speaker. Sat nav volume is switched on and up but tells me it needs a blue tooth connection which it doesn't when on the car cradel.

I recently had a bit of success with TomTom. My TomTom Rider 1 did not charge on the bike cradle, there is a known problem with the early cradles. TomTom have developed a TomTom Rider 1 replacement cradle (updated) and if you push hard they will wend you one in the post free of charge.

I turn on my tom tom go 700 and the screen appears with a picture of the tom tom in a green box and then it stops and i wont turn of

If your TomTom GO/ONE/RIDER is frozen, won’t turn on or does not behave as it should, it can be fixed by resetting or restarting your TomTom device.
A reset will not delete any data from your device, with the exception of SMS messages on TomTom GO500/700.
  1. Connect your GO/ONE/RIDER to the power charger. If you have a power charger, use it to power your TomTom GO/ONE/RIDER. If you do not have a power charger, make sure that the battery in your TomTom GO/ONE is fully charged.
    Note: You need to charge your GO/ONE for at least 2 hours using the 12-24V cigarette lighter adapter.
  2. Reset your GO/ONE/RIDER. To reset the unit, you simply have to push a straightened paper clip (or something similar) into the RESET hole on the device.
    • On TomTom GO 910/710/510, the RESET hole is located on the bottom of the device.
      tomtomgox10.jpg
    • On TomTom GO 700/500/300, the RESET hole is located on the bottom of the device with the word RESET right next to it.
      tomtomgox00.jpg
    • On TomTom ONE, the RESET hole is located on the bottom of the device, with the word RESET right next to it (just below the SD card slot).
      tomtomone.jpg
    • On TomTom RIDER, the RESET hole is on the bottom of the device, behind the SD card door. When opening the SD card door you will see the RESET hole on the left, right underneath the SD card slot.

  3. Your TomTom GO/ONE/RIDER is now reset. Finally, press and hold the power button for 2 seconds.

Tomtom only charges on fast charger base. Why?

if it is not charging in the car then the socket in the car is dead, blown fuse or defective socket..

Tomtom Rider GPS won't turn on

My Rider 1 is showing the same sympton. Was working fine now I can't get past the initial "Tomtom" screen.

Does it power up when connected to the mains charger?- No, need to prod reset and then turn on manually.
Does it switch on when connected to the bike cradle? - No, only sign of life if by manually turning on but only get as far as the Tomtom screen, not the main menu.

Any ideas welcome

Have tom tom for car,need to wire it up to m/cycle

I've wired my tom tom for use on a motor bike.
you CANT run 12v straight into the tomtom, you can see on the cig lighter plug it has a 5v output.
So I bought cheap lighter socket, it looks like plastic tube with the cable running out of the back.
So the wires run from the battery (via an in line fuse) to the cig adaptors, these are hidden in my side luggage bag to keep dry and up to the tomtom. job done

Tom tom home does not see my tom tom go 520

Hi canal_boat_m

Try this solution:

STEP 1 Un-install Tom Tom Home from your PC

STEP 2 Click on the link below:

http://tomtom.com/lib/img/cs/S4S/files/RemoveRegEntries_TTGOv1.exe
This will download a little removal program for the Tom Tom Home program.
A Black window will appear briefly then close.
• Make sure that you have got Administrator rights on the PC. Otherwise you may not be allowed to connect new hardware (especially the case when using office computers)
• Reboot your PC

STEP 3 Visit Tom Tom website and download the current new version of Tom Tom Home and install it to your PC
STEP 4 Connect the TomTom

• Make sure the device is fully charged before connecting it to the computer. Ideally a mininum of 4 hours charge.
• Reset the device using a paper clip (see http://www.tomtom.com/6965). When resetting, keep the reset button pushed in for at least 20 seconds, but DO NOT turn the device back on just yet.
• Ensure that your TomTom has power connected to it. There should be a green light on the TomTom unit. If your device came with a Home Charger, please make sure that is plugged in to the TomTom also.
Your Tom Tom should ask you to 'Connect to Computer' if it does tap YES.

SOLUTION:
Your unit should now be recognized by your PC.

IF IT DOESN'T then follow the instructions below:

1. Connect your unit to your PC;
2. Copy two folders to your PC (namely 'Raster' and the one which holds all your maps - probably called 'United Kingdom and Eire';
3. Using Windows Utility, right click on the Tom Tom drive unit and select Fomat;
4. Switch off the unit and soft-reset it with a paper clip (but hold it in for at least 20 mins) and then re-connect it and power it up;
5. Tom Tom Home should now detect the unit and your unit should ask you to 'Connect to Computer' so tap YES;
6. Tom Tom Home will now say your device needs updating - and if you apply all the changes it will restore it to Factory Finished!
7. Then all's needed is to replace the two folders you backed up and any other items like mp3's and sounds, pics, etc.

Tom tom one v1 Loose power connector

If the problem exists both when you use the vehicle power connector and the usb cable to your computer, then you have to assume that the problem is with the socket on the One. If it's still in warranty, I would send it back to Tom Tom for repair. Contact customer support for repair information.

Tomtom rider 1 not charging when on bike

TOMTOM are VERY aware of this problem. but deny it is an issue!
I had the same problem, they sent me a new shoe after weeks of emails. I told them that the shoe is not the problem, it's the connector on the back of the TT1. Because of the springloaded pins fitted to the shoe and the poor quality connectors on the TT the normal vibration on a motorcycle causes the pins to wear holes in the connectors on the TT causing intermittant connection.
As the cost of repairing or replacing these connectors is very high and there are a large number of units that would require this repair TT are ignoring it.
I'm now looking at a way of bypassing the connector altogether.
A temporary solution appears to be to smear the contacts on the back of the rider with a little petroleum grease or WD40 - seems to work for a couple of weeks at a time.

Tom To Rider

Unfortunately I have encountered the same issue with my Tom Tom Rider. I have worked out the problem is between the mounting bracket and the GPS unit. There are 4 little metal pins that spring in and out on the mounting braket that are supposed to be in touch with 4 metal cylindrical metal surfaces on the rear of the GPS head unit. This looks good in design and theory, but the GPS unit does not always make contact with the metal pins, hence allowing no charge to GPS unit and automatically turns itself off whilst riding. I have sort to overcome the issue with building the rear of GPS head unit cylindrical contact points with solder. It is a fiddly fix, but to date this has overcome the issues you have named up. A small drop of self fluxing solder is all that is required. No more than 2mm projection off GPS unit. Allow the solder to adhere to contact and move soldering iron towards the base of GPS unit. The reason for doing this is to allow the pins extra contact surface. I found my pins on the mounting unit did not line up with GPS head unit when fitting together from new. It's not easy to see this, but shine a torch light as you bring 2 surfaces together and you will see what I mean. The mounting braket pins were slightly lower than the GPS contacts. This is what causes the problem. Hopefully Tom Tom will redsign these on the next model or allow more contact space and tolerances to eliminate this frustration. Regards, Nicky (fellow Tom Tom Rider)
