Try it with some headphones as suggested earlier -
it sounds like the speakers are damaged though. ..check mixer levels also to make sure everything isnt up full blast... could be blown-could be loose connections..headphone test first though and let me know if its clear (any headphones from portable MP3 player should do)

Sound on my dell latitude D610 is skipping making the sound choppy and warbled. But, music thru external speaker sounds fine. What up?

May be your headphone is not good, so let's check your headphone. If headphone is good, lets' install newest audio driver for your laptop to see whether the problem is fixed.

Choppy sound

If all media players are closed, Open the Control Panel> Sounds> open, click on configure, test. Any Problem? Now when you say "choppy sound" The audio is on what, using what? With limited info it's difficult to give a informed solution. FOR INSTANCE, I was watching a movie/music, online video, youtube....etc. with (your software) and the sound was choppy. Or, I was on IE and watching a Video, music, etc. Lets say you open Itunes and play a song, sound is choppy?

My internal speakers are not working pls.

Please check out a few things with your laptop 1. Play some music files and see what the software tell, if it normally plays music but you cannot hear it from the internal speaker then plug in a head phone or speaker and play some music if you are not able to hear in the headphone/speaker, then the problem is with the internal speaker, (Take it to the laptop service center for repairing the internal speakers).
2. Mostly sound problem occurs due to driver software problem it may be some times corrupted, uninstalled accidently but in such cases while trying to play a music file an error will appearing stating about the problem of sound driver, but first you can try uninstalling the audio driver and reinstall it.
3. To Uninstall insert the Driver cd that came with your laptop and Click on the audio driver icon or setup program, which will prompt you to install the audio driver> on second instance it will prompt you to uninstall or repair the driver> Click on Uninstall and after being uninstalled restart the computer and install the driver. In many instances it solves the problem.
Hope this helps.

Whenever I start the computer, I dont hear any sound from window and if I try to play music from my media player, no sound at all. I can only listen to music or sound via headphone only. I have downloaded...

most system has seperate audio ports for the speaker and the headphone but they are interchangeable. try plugging the speaker on the audio your using for the headphone. if your already using the same audio jack then try using another speaker, but since you mentioned that the headphone works then its possible you might need to replace your speaker

Toshia Satelite sound skips when playing through speakers

From what I can tell your machine uses a Realtek sound device. Download and reinstall this driver to see if it fixes your problem.

Hi, My speakers won't work on my "Vista" laptop. I have made 3 trips to bestbuy. "it's 20 miles round trip." The geek guy got them working, when I play DVD movie. befor they worked on...

Your Majorgeek seems to have been a Minorgeek. When you purchase external speakers to use with your laptop, you must configure your laptop for them. Since your system appears to have worked before you tried to use external speakers, I doubt that you have a problem with your sound device driver. Still,
go to control panel, and check device manager to see if you have any problems. If you have a problem flagged, let me know. If not, click on Hardware and Sound, then on Sound, and see how your laptop speakers are configured. Majorgeek should have turned off your internal laptop speakers and configured them for your external speakers. If they didn't, that likely explains your problem. Configure them and test the sound there.

If you need to use your laptop speakers (say you take your laptop somewhere without your external speakers) you will need to reconfigure your sound to the laptop speakers whenever you need to use them. Let me know if this solved your problem.

You need to install the drivers for your soundcard. Try to find out what model of soundcard do you have and what version of Windows and try to search for the specific driver on the internet.
You can try these websites:
http://www.driverguide.com/
http://www.soft32.com/c/Windows/Drivers/2-52.html
Here's a tutorial on how to install a driver: http://www.totallydrivers.com/resources/directions_installation.asp
If you still can't hear sound try these steps, maybe it's not from your soundcard:
-Plug in the speakers
-Turn on the speakers.
-Turn-up the volume in Windows and on the speakers.
-Uncheck the mute checkbox in sound control panel.
-Verify a sound should be playing. In the Control Panel, play some Windows sounds. Play a music CD.
-Plug the speakers into the right hole on the sound card.
-Are the speakers plugged into the sound card and not the MODEM?
-Is the sound card installed correctly?
-Is the power converter for the speakers plugged into a wall outlet or surge protector?
-Is the power converter plugged into the speakers?
-Try other speakers or a head phone?
