Can not connect laptop to router ?

I have installed Dir 625 to Desk top but now laptop will not connect to the internet.....I have a IBM think pad X31 I have spoken to D Link they said I have shut off wireless connection ??? As I get "wireless connection not in range.I ' I have shut nothing off...but they tell me there is a combination on the keyboard that will do it ??
I also am getting alot of " IE can not display the webpage' on desk top

Ok I have tried connecting laptop directly to the Dlink router and it works fine.

and sorry I do not know if wireless card was install later, as this computer was given to me..I have got a call in to ask that.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have tried the Function + F5 and nothing happens....I see no light going on or off..

The 1st thing I recommend is you connect the laptop directly to the Dlink router using a standard patch network cable. See if you can get on the internet using that method. If you can't then we know you have a problem somewhere else.

did this model ship with a built in wireless card?

If the laptop came with the wireless card installed, you can turn the wireless device on and off by holding down the Function Key and pressing the F5 Key, you should see the indicator light turn off and on. Try that and see if you see the light going off and on each time you press Function + F5

Please try to access the router's configuration page by accessing 192.168.0.1 using a computer that is wired on the router.

Default admin user name:Admin
Default admin password:

Please update firmware:
Note:Please do not upgrade the firmware over wireless connection. Anyway you wont be able to do that now but for future reference. Please use the link on the bottom.

Check your settings on your wireless setup and make sure the adapter on your computer is set to Security Type: Shared. That is the most over-looked stumbling block.

Does your modem has a NAT too? if not then upgrade the firmware of the router that usually fix the problem, if not then ask your ISP and see if they are blocking the ports. have you tried connection without the router to see if that will work?

I have installed 2 delink routers for my Mac, I still cannot get on line. the mac is new, what is the problem?

Try to configure the DIR-625 wireless router. Connect your computer to one of the LAN port to one of the router. Then access the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1) configure as dynamic IP then clone the MAC address. Make sure that you modem is connected to Internet port section of the router. Check the Internet connection after the configuration leave the other behind check the connection of the main router before installing the other one.

If your laptop has a wireless capability you should be able to connect to the wireless network of your router, just view the available wireless network select the wireless name of your router and connected to it if it already say connected try to disconnect the ethernet cable from your laptop and access the internet wirelessly..........

A lot of laptops have a hardware or software switch to enable/disable the wireless radio. I'd look for that first. I can help you find it better if you provide your laptop model.
