It is the switch that detects LCD position, sometimes it's mechanical switch some uses reed switch. I smell failure in this area (could be the switch or the flexi that connects switch info to CPU). Hope it helps

Our LCD is ceiling suspended, upside down. When I was resetting the time for cleaning, I think I touched a button on the remote that turned the image on our screen upside down. I can't figure out how to...

1. Press the KEYSTONE button on the remote control. 2. Go down to Manual with the \/ or /\ button, then press > to select it. 3. Select V:INVERT, or H&V:INVERT, to flip the image.

I got cryptic answer regarding the problem that the picture on the monitor on my camcroder GZ-HM400 is upside down.

There is a switch within the camera that controls the orientation of the LCD image. When the screen is flipped upside down, the switch is supposed to tell the camera to flip the image upside down as well. If this switch is damaged, the camcorder gets the wrong signal and the image will be displayed upside down. This can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

The image is flipped upside down and won't go back I think the camera might have been dropped

THIS IS A REPAIR SHOP TASK

normally there is a micro switch fixed at the awivl head of the lcd panel. when the lcd is rotated to 180 the switch gets engaged thus turns the image upside down. iF IT IS PERMANENTLY UPSIDE DOWN yhen most probably the switch has worn out.and its not resetting.
You could try a few gentle taps to see if it releases the micro switch

flip switch is not working or stucked, a loose wire connected to this switch is also possible. you may open the unit and check for it. a pro fix is better.

LCD screen turns off when back in body

We had a similar problem. If you remove the cover to the place where the LCD hinges, you will find two little wires broken off. These attach to a black touch sensor resting in the lcd screen. It comes out easily and without issue. WIth the two wires torn, the camera does not recognize that the LCD display has been turned around. It turns the screen off because it believes you have the LCD screen pointed inward towards the body of the camera. A small extension for the wires and a soldering iron solved that set of problems.
