I have a TI-83 Plus calculator. Each time I press the graph button I get "ERR INVALID DIM" displayed on the screen. How can I correct this so tnat I can use the graphing feature?
The solution for the problem is simple. When you use the calculator to
create statistical graphs, it is configured to accommodate the specificities of the
problem. However that configuration remains set after you terminate the
problem. So when you try to use the calculator to do other problems it
uses the stored configuration parameters, which may be incompatible
with the new problem. In particular, list of paired-variables must have the same dimensions: There must be the same number of elements in each list.
To
make a long story short, you should make it a habit to reset the Ram
every time you want to do a new problem. If for reasons of you own you
do not want to reset the Ram, you can prevent this type of errors from
occurring. This is how you do it.
To reset the Ram press [2nd][+] (MEM) [7:Reset][1:All Ram][2:Reset]. Press [CLEAR] to erase the Ram Cleared message.
I gave you all the procedures to clear the Invalid Dimension error.
First: Turning statistical plots OFF while preserving your precious data.
Second : Clearing all RAM which resets the calculator to defaults.
For this last one you may have to adjust screen contrast by pressing [2nd] key and releasing it, followed by pressing and HOLDING the UPArrow to darken or the DOWNARROW to lighten screen.
If all these procedures failed, then there is still a very trivial possibility: you did not understand the instructions. Here is the way to read the key sequences.
Press [2nd][Y=] (STATPLOT) . Press the physical key [2nd] then the physical key [Y=] to access the (STATPLOT) menu.
[4:PlotsOff][ENTER] . When you access the statplot menu above, you find a numbered list of options. The 4th item in the list is [4:PlotsOFF]. To enact that option, you press the 4 on the keypad. The calculator displays PlotsOff on main calculator screen, and you execute the command by pressing ENTER. The calculator runs the command and says Done.
In short, in key is between square brackets [ key] that means the physical key. If key is between parentheses (key) that means the SHIFTED function key. etc
