When plugged in, the power light will glow green for a moment then the Acer logo actually appears on the screen, then the logo disappears and the power light goes back off... Connecting and disconnecting the monitor cord does not affect it, and all computers tested with this monitor yielded the same results... Does this sound like a serious internal problem? Maybe a switch?
I have experienced the same problem (power cycles on and off and on and off... nothing but Acer logo and black screen) on 2 Acer model 1706 A version 1706 Ab monitors both built in July 2006. Before the customer reported the 2nd monitor with the same problem, i sent the 1st one into Acer for warranty service (after testing in on 4 machines w/4 different video cards). They shipped it back with a paper saying the monitor was repaired. I returned the monitor to the customer and it exhibited the same symptoms (aka, not repaired). Could there have been a bad batch in July 2006? When I plug a new Acer AL1716 monitor into the same computers, I have no problems at all.
Open monitor up and check caps. If blow get high voltage but same micro ferad( like if it was 10v 1000uf go with a 25v 1000uf cap) I caps look fine check for cold solder.

I have a monitor doing the same thing, only after a couple of times, now the logo doesn't even appear and the power button doesn't even light up.
my screen goes black with the green acer logo appearing. it becomes more frequent the longer i stay on the computer. i initially thought it was happening when updates were being installed but now it is very frequent...sometimes 5 or 6 times in a minute. i have tried the connections. is it the monitor or the computer?

Same problem as others reported. This model is about two years old. I believe it is something with the power cord connection. Have to get another power cord to try. My fear is that something is loose on the monitor where you plug in the power cord, because when it has worked and I shifted the monitor, the problem, as described above, started happening.
The monitor clearly works, but there is something wrong with the power connection.
I have the same problem just now. Started with display fades in and out, then power cycling on and off the display, now the power buttons led was all that flashed.
I don't think its just one bad batch ether as this one is from Sep 2006.
My guess is that I/we have some compositors that have gone bad in the power supply or something.
