Slide one or two film strips all the way into the film holder with the shiny base side facing down. ... Do not cover the small holes in the film holder. Make ...
You have to have the plastic slide holder (positioner) placed perfectly. Look at the "A" and "C" tabs on the plastic holder. If they don't position your slides over the center of the glass, you are using the wrong tab! Slides have to be back-lit, which is what the top cover does. It doesn't light up the sides of the scanner glass, only the middle.
I have the 5400 II and have had similar problem. I found out, that it is essential, that the film/slide holder is clean and have a smooth surface. Specially on the edge where it touches the plain bearings. I have lubricated the whole holder with acid-free silicone, wich over time made the scanner work perfectly. Brgds Per
Be sure to put the slide in the holder in the proper direction. The opening in the slide holder is rectangular, not square like the slide. If you place the slide in the holder horizontally and the holder window is vertical, it will crop off the sides of your picture.
double click the HP solution center
open the scanner lid
remove the TMA cover (transparent material adapter) by pulling the cover up
place the slides onto the slide holder
insert the slides w the top of the slides pointing up
and the front of the slide facing you
close the lid
press the scan film
in the HP dialog box select picture
select scan positive, and select TMA
click scan
goodluck
cheers
to scan a slide is difficult, and it is alomst impossible to get a clear image. since slide needs intense light to show a clean image. the scaners' light bar just not enough light to reflect back to get a clean image.
you may get the same result if you take them to a professional for conversion.
I don't have any suggestion at this time.
There are holders for the slides and negatives inside the top cover. Remove the white part and take out the holders. Place the slides or negatives in the holders and place on the glass plate. Then you choose the proper menu for copy or scan and follow the directions on the screen. I scanned quite a few slides and had no problem.
Where are you scanning from? Do you get an error? If scanning from Toolbox, check the box that says to use ScanGear or use the Scanner driver. Then make sure it is not set for Film as the select source.
Not sure if this will fix it, but there are a bunch of metal tabs on each rail (that the holder goes into) that (I believe) are contacts that help the scanner to determine where the holder is. They get bent very easily. If they are, bend them back carefully.
You sort of have to look "up" into the scanner with a flashlight to see them on each side.
