The issue could occur if the cartridge or carriage contacts needs to be cleaned.

To resolve the issue, I request you to perform the below steps:

Solution Summary:
===============
Step 1: Connect the printer directly to the wall Outlet
Step 2: Remove both the cartridges.
Step 3: Clean the cartridges and carriage contacts
Step 4: Insert both the cartridges.
Step 5: Semi-full reset.
Step 6: Try with Old/New cartridge.

Solution :
===========
Step 1: Connect the printer directly to the wall Outlet

I request you to remove the power cord from the power surge and connect the All-in-One directly to wal outlet.

Step 2: Remove both the cartridges and clean.

I request you to remove the cartridges from the unit and to do that I request you to make sure you performed the steps given in the below weblink:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00428054&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=441125

NOTE: Once you click on the URL the document should open. However, if it indicates as invalid please copy the entire URL starting from " http " to "441125" and paste in the address bar of internet explorer and then press enter.

For more information go through below weblink.

Step 3: Clean the cartridges and carriage contacts

To clean the cartridge contacts, please follow the steps provided in below web link :

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00058182

NOTE:- Copy the complete URL starting from "http" till "c00058182" and paste it onto the address box of your browser, and then press Enter

Step 4: Power cycle the Unit.

Follow the steps below to power cycle your all-in-one:

1. Verify that the unit is switched on. Unplug the all-in-one from power and disconnect the USB.
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Plug in the power cable only.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times.
5. On the third time after plugging the unit into power, reconnect the cable from the all-in-one to your computer.
6. Now check the functionality.

Step 5: Insert both the cartridges.

Now I request you to reinsert the cartridges by performing the steps given in the weblink in step 2 and also align the cartridges.

If the issue still persists then I request you to reset the unit.

Step 6: Semi-full reset.

Reset the All-in-One to the factory default settings by using these instructions:

1. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on and wait for 20 seconds.

2. Then, press and hold # and 6 while plugging in the power cord.

Continue holding until it displays Semi Full Reset message in the front panel of the All-in-One.

Step 7: Try with Old/New cartridge.

If the issue still persists then I request you to try with a spare cartridge and check the functionality. If with a spare cartridge issue resolves then the issue is due to defective cartridges. If with the spare cartridge issue still persists then I regret to inform you that the issue is due to defective All-in-One and needs to be replaced.

Hope this Helps….

Thanks and Regards

Hp officejet 4355 gives this message " cartrige error" refer to device documents for trouble shooting

Mostly, printer cartridge error occurs when the printer head is unable to identify the cartridge properly. And the basic reason behind this is that the cartridge is improperly attached. To reattach the cartridge, turn on the lid of the printer and then remove the cartridge from the printer head. Check the cartridge to make sure that there are no scratches or other damaged parts that can contribute to a printer cartridge error report. Take note that the cartridge should not be left open for more than 30 minutes; otherwise the ink will start to dry up and the cartridge will get clogged.

Black ink problem refer to trouble shooting guide. Nothing in guide

It sounds like you are using aftermarket or refilled cartridges. To clear the sensors and nozzle, install new OEM cartridges, run deep cleaning a number of times (at least 3 times), and then the alignment utility.
Aftermarket/refilled cartridges do not always meet the manufacturer's specifications for quality and can gum up the nozzles. Try cartridges from LDproducts.com for your printer. I've never had a problem with their aftermarket cartridges.
