Run multiple monitors

The specs on this machine don't mention an AGP slot. It has 3 PCI slots and 1 PCIe x 16 slot. I'm assuming the GeForce graphics card is in the PCIe slot. I need to run 3 monitors. I want to get a 256mb graphics card that will run 2 monitors and replace the existing card with a 256mb card. I can't find a 256mb card that fits into a regular PCI slot. Does this machine have an AGP slot? what is the best way to run 3 monitors? If someone can help me it would be really great

  • Dick van Zalinge Dec 15, 2007

    i've checked it, it's about $700 (699 ex. shipment)

    but atleast it works

  • Dick van Zalinge Dec 15, 2007

to check if you have an AGP slot open your computer to see if you have a big slot which looks entirely diffent than the other slots
it's usually occupied by a video card

Is the video card PCIe compatible? I just assumed that by its age that it would be a standard PCI. I was wrong. Allan

System features of HP xw4400 Workstation on official HP web site state:

Expansion Slot
6 slots: 1 PCI Express (x16) Graphics slot, 1 PCI Express (x16 mechanically, x4 electrically), 1 PCI Express (x1) and 3 full-length legacy PCI slots

So it should work fine with modern PCIe graphic cards

HP GeForce FX 5200, AGP Graphic Card fit the slot in my HP Pavilion Slimline s3620f

No this card won't work in an 'HP Pav. Slimline s3620f" The specs from HP say it has one open PCI-E slot that is used for graphics cards.

How can i tell the difference between pci slots and pcie slots

The Peripheral Component Interconnect or more commonly known as PCI is a standard for connecting a lot of devices inside your computer to extend its capabilities. Devices like sound cards, modems, NIC, TV Tuners, and some video cards have at some point or another have used the PCI port.
PCI express ( PCI-E ) is a much improved version in terms of speed. PCIe uses a serial interface instead of the old parallel interface used by PCI. It also utilizes individual buses for each of the devices connected to it instead of a shared one like what PCI uses. The difference in speed is quite huge when comparing the standard PCI slot which runs at 133MB/s to a 16 slot PCIe that can send or receive up to 16GB/s.

The most common use for PCIe nowadays is with graphics cards which benefits hugely from the huge bandwidth provided by the interface.
1. PCIe is much faster compared to PCI.
2. PCIe uses a serial interface while PCI uses a parallel interface.
3. PCIe speed is classified into lanes, each capable of delivering up to 1GB/s data transfer.
4. PCI slots are standardized while PCIe slots vary depending on the number of lanes the slot is intended for.
5. Despite PCIe superiority, most manufacturers still use the PCI standard for their devices.

Unlike PCI slots which are the same size for all devices, PCIe slots can differ depending on which form factor it accepts. The longest would be the 16 lane slot and understandably, the shortest is for the x1 devices.

I hope this much information is enough for you to understand the difference between both of them. If you need any more help let me know.. !

Is this card for AGP or PCI-E?

these cards come both ways..This is a first generation PCIe card, but some were made with an AGP bridge that allowed them to be used in a AGP slot. You will need to visually inspect the your card. Here is a good description of both and AGP and PCIE slot-- http://www.kids-online.net/learn/click/details/agp.html

Ok, i have two things to ask 1: Where is the video card on a emachines W3503? 2: Could a video card swap be done between a W3503 and a W3052? Thank you for viewing :)

1. The emachines W3503 has an integrated ATI Radeon™ X300 based graphics card. It has also a PCI Express (PCIe x16) slot available.

2. The emachines W3052 has a NVIDIA® GeForce®4™ MX graphics card. I'm not sure whether it is integrated or not, but I'm sure that if it is not, it will be an AGP graphics card. Since The emachines W3503 has a PCI Express (PCIe x16) slot available for installing a graphics card, the swapping of graphics cards between the 2 machines is not possible since they support different types of graphics cards.

Thw difference between agp and pci slot

sir, you cant replace it with PCI E from AGP, unless your motherboard can handle either PCIE or AGP. cause there is a motherboard which is compatible with the two interface video cards slots but in your case i dont think so. Better to check your motherboards manual for this.

Graphics card problem

Hi rovin,
So you bought an XFX GeForce 256MB video card. You're board has 1 free AGP 8x video slot & 3 PCI (White opened slots).
You mention there is not slot for the new card. (What type of video card did you buy)? PCI-E, AGP or PCI?
The only slot you're board does not have is a PCI-Express.
Look in you're manual on page 1-7 for the location of the AGP video card slot.
94565e6.jpg If you bought the wrong card, exchange it for an AGP 8x or PCI.
The ASUS P5PE-VM uses a integrated Intel® 865G chipset with integrated Intel® Extreme Graphics 2 Technology, which uses you're system memory to function.
If you need a manual you can download it from Asus. Click on the link to open to the P5PE-VM download site.

I hope you find this helpful.
