Do I need a new printer scanner

Remove the cartridges and do a full reset without them in by removing the wall socket and re-plugging.

open the rear access door and clean the rollers with a cloth, dam it with little water and unplug the machine and press and hold the ON button for 1 min and release the button and plug in the power cord, it should resolve the issue.

have you tried to reset the printer?

(Take the power cord off hold # 3and then turn the printer on.)
That is an initial position problem

first re-install product driver properly then try.

reset to factory defaults, also check the whole printer for paper jams. A paper jam can often casue smaller pieces to get stuck in gears or rollers. The message about opening and closing the lid is how the printer knows you went in to check it and closeing it triggers it to try again. If thers still a jam it will keep giving the message. The fist jam was caused by something, check and make sure there isnt any pieces of plastic broken off inside. If it has a rear access panel, check there also.

Remove the old and reinstall the new. First go to Control Panel/Add Remove Programs and remove the old software package. HP has a software cleaning utility to *really* remove all the old driver files. i suggest you run through that utility, Then install the new drivers/software for the new device.

Its a Fimware Error.
Try a Hardware Reset.
-Switch the Printer on
-unplug the powerkable
-press "#" and "6" and plug in the Powerkable.
when the Display shows Initialising or Semi-Full-Reset. release the "#" and the"6".
