Hello you've probably given up and binned the cam by now - we nearly did. but solved it last night. In our case it was the annoying photo editing program that opens automatically when your camera opens up that's interfering with Skype. called magic-i or something like that. Remove that from your comp and the camera works fine. good luck!!

Sometimes webcam software can still be hooked up on a previous program where it was being used, even if the program was correctly exited.
Just reboot your webcam software by unplugging the webcam from the USB port for a couple of seconds
Re-check your settings

  1. Start Skype.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click Audio Settings.
  4. Select your webcam as the default microphone. ( If it has a built in mic )
  5. In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click Video Settings.
  6. Select your webcam as the default Webcam.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Test LifeCam by making a Skype test call.

I have a hp deluxe webcam model KQ246AA. When I try to have a video call with Skype, It doesn't work , Says unknown video error or sometime it has said camera is in use by another application????

Before you can use your webcam in any chat program you have to configure it to that program

Test your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

http://www.testmycam.com/

working OK ?

CONFIGURE TO SKYPE
Connect webcam
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start (To reboot the webcam software) - if you have been using it elsewhere the SKYPE software may have difficulty in locating it, even if you exited the previous program correctly.(webcam not found or webcam in use elsewhere error messages)
The reason being, the webcam software can remain hooked-up to a program and needs to be rebooted.
Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in to reboot the software.
If yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.

Start Skype.
On the 'Tools' menu, click 'Options'.
In the navigation pane of the Skype 'Options' window, click 'Audio Settings'
Run down the list setting your defaults
Select your webcam as the default microphone.
Make a free test call
Click 'Save'
In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click Video Settings.
This will launch your webcam
Adjust quality of picture in 'Settings'
Check the correct webcam is shown as default
Click Save
Test your webcam by making a Skype test call.

HP Deluxe Webcam w/ Vista Home Premium 32Bit - Has Sound No Video

Test your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

No luck ? download this diagnostic tool and run it through

http://www.download32.com/webcam-diagnostics-d35065.html

Don't worry about the first alert - I always get that.

Webcams run on support software some on flashplayer some shockwave player and some Activex - so make sure these are in place and up to date - check the support software against the machine the webcam works in.

The USB port you are using needs to be checked out as well

Webcam software is notorious for getting locked on to programs that you have been using - I often have to reboot my software by unplugging the cam for a couple of seconds when changing from Skype to Yahoo for example

If the software in the Imaging folder is not being used you could uninstall it in case you have a conflict.

Have you tried to update the driver from the Device Manager ? expand the folder and click on the webcam text - update driver using internet option.
Please post any feedback that may be useful to other users

HP Webcam Deluxe KQ246AA Not working correctly in XP

No solution, but I have precisely the same issue. I've reinstalled and removed ArcSoft many times, being careful to clean registries, etc but to no avail. The camera actually worked with Skype initially (plug and play), UNTIL I installed ArcSoft. So I think that ArcSoft "stepped" on a driver somewhere that I can't detect or repair. (I'm using "Driver Detective" but so far it hasn't helped) Will update if I find a fix.

Also send this to your family and friends so they have their computer setup properly.
Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.
Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

  1. Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if Installed Properly will come up and show a video picture.
  4. Then, on the bottom of the page click on Save.
The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and her to you.
B. Yahoo Setup:
After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger (http://www.soft32.com/download_30.html ) set it up as follows:
  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.
Hope this helps. Bud
