I'm getting a lot of errors on my PC. Would like some advice about safe mode. Is it wise to use it and what would I lose of my desk top if I went ahead and used it. Would I lose all my files. It is really just emails I want to save and I have already saved them on an external flash drive. I would be obliged if or when I get a reply it is in terms I can understand as I am a PC novice.

What type of errors are you getting? Is Windows crashing or are you getting other errors? Have you run a full virus and malware scan? It's not a good idea to continue using it without backing up your precious data (copy to a CD or other removable media) as you may well lose it. It's unlikely you will do any physical damage to your computer but reliability will be an issue.

"safe mode" is generally used to correct wrong drivers etc. that you installed.first thing i would do would be to install "Free Windows Registry Scan".after i ran it on mine and corrected the errors it found;all 3 of my PC's ran better with no error messages.
search for it.

While an Operating System is in the Safe Mode, it will have reduced functionality, but it is easier to isolate problems because many non-core components are disabled.

Restart the Computer and press the F8 key at the Startup to start the Computer in the Safe Mode.

Try performing the System Restore in the Safe Mode.

Click on Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore.

Then restore the Computer when it was working normally.

NOTE: The System Restore procedure will restore the Registry and other settings back to the date and time selected. No data will be lost. Saved documents and e-mail will not be affected by performing a System Restore. Any Hardware or Software that has been installed after the date of the restore point will need to be reinstalled.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Hi,
Safe mode will not delete any files or documents saved on the system.
Safe mode only loads basic drivers that the system needs to operate, it is used for resolving problems with the PC. The audio, graphics and network (internet connection) are all disabled when you boot into safe mode.
Don't worry, safe mode is exactly as its name describes itself.

If you need anymore advice please post back.

Regards.

Why won't my COMPAQ PRESARIO SR2032X desk top

Please turn off the computer, start hitting F8 at the start-up and then choose last known good configuration. If this does not work, choose Safe mode options.
If still does not work, please try to restore the computer to factory settings. You can try to hit F11 or F10 at the startup to initiate recovery.
If not working, please tell me what error message you get on the screen.

I have just install a new video card on my Dell 1100 desk top

Try booting the PC in safe mode.
Before Windows starts loading during startup, keep pressing F8, a menu should pop up. Select Safe Mode, then, when the PC has booted, you install the graphics cards drivers. Then set the resolution back to its minimal value in the control panel and restart it normally.

I hope this helps,
yannick.

My computer wont start up

First try pressing F2 at start up to see if you can get to setup. Also pressing F12 may get you a boot menu. If cd is already set as first boot you may get a chance to boot from a Windows cd. The idea here is to get to a minimal Windows configuration like setup or safe mode (F8) to see if this is a hardware or operating system fault. Two common issues with eMachines are power supply problems where repetitive reboots can actually fry the motherboard or if the PC has a few years use the CMOS battery. Steve Medley

Start menu and desk top

Can you start it in Safe Mode? Press F8 while the computer is booting. click on Safe Mode with Networking when the menu comes up.
When you get into Safe Mode, run you anti-virus. And clean your Cookies, Temp files and Internet Temporary Files. And while in Safe Mode, run a defrag of the C: drive. Restart the computer and it should start up correctly.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Getting blue screen after start up

Try booting up to the recovery CD, it sounds like a software conflict error that is locking up your computer.

Try 1st if you can get into safe mode (hitting F8 when you first apply power to the computer, till the safe mode screen comes up)

Then try booting up to the last known good configuration (same F8 different selection on screen)

THEN try the recovery CD.
